of how to plan for college, the costs involved, and what you can start do
ing now!

K-12 Parent Board Nominations
The Parent Board will consist of five members; two K-5 parents, two
6-12 parents and one community member. Board members should have
child ren that participate in Tribally sponsored events and programs,
who are willing to dedicate approximately 3 hours per month. Elections
will take place on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at the monthly Parent
Committee Meeting.

The Confederated Tribes of Grand
Ronde Youth Sponsorship Program
CTGR Youth Sponsorship can only be used one time per calendar year
(Januaryl to December 31). The amount of the sponsorship is for, but not to
exceed, up to $200 The Sponsorship can be used for any school or community
related activity i.e. sports campsteams, dance classes, music lessons, school
fees, swimming lessons, summer camps, academic enrichment, etc.
Eligibility Guidelines:
1. Youth must be an enrolled CTGR Tribal member.
2. Youth must be currently attending school or an alternative form of
certified and recognized educational program.
3. Youth must be in grades Kindergarten through the 12th.

A Pre-College Workshop For
Native American Students
College-bound Native American high school students are invited to
participate in a five-day college preparation course this summer during
seminars to be held at Harvard and Stanford universities.
Students who participate in College Horizons will work with college
counselors and admission officers to help them with:
Selecting suitable colleges
Completing winning applications and write memorable essays
Learning what turns an applicant into an admitted student
Becoming a test-prep "whiz kid"
Finding the way through the financial aid and scholarship jungle
Students will also learn about various colleges and universities, and es
tablish personal relationships with admission representatives and college
counselors that will continue after the program is over. Ninety students
will be allowed to participate at each site. Please view at the College
Horizons Web site to see which schools will be at the East Coast or West
Coast seminar. Native American (enrolled members only), Alaska Native
or Native Hawaiian sophomores and juniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0
(in academic courses) are eligible.
The College Horizons crash course is scheduled for the following dates:

The workshops will be taught by Northwest Computer Learning Center
and will run from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. in the computer lab in the Adult Education
Building. Cost for a workshop is $150 and eligible Tribal members can apply
to the Short-Term Training program for assistance with registration costs.
Space is limited to the first 15 who register.

Sapsik'wala Program
Do you have a bachelor's degree? Are you a member of an Indian
Tribe or Band or a descendent of a parent or grandparent who meets
Tribal membership qualifications?
Below is an opportunity for anyone interested in entering into a
Master of Arts in Teaching Program (for initial teaching licensure) at
the University of Oregon:
The Sapsik'wala program is a scholarship program to benefit and
train American Indian students to become professional educators.
Qualified applicants choose an elementary, middle school or high
school level teacher education program at the UO College of Education.
Sapsik'wala Program Scholarship recipients receive tuition and fees, a
monthly stipend, and a book allowance. Students will also be provided
admissions and advisement support within the program and through
the Coordinator of Native Student Enrollment Services and the Office
of Multicultural Education.
