Buddy John Haskins, Jr.
April 8, 1953 - September 8, 2006
Tribal member Buddy John
Haskins, Jr. passed away on Fri
day, September 8, 2006 at the age
of 53. He was born April 8, 1953 in
McMinnville, Oregon to Buddy John
Haskins, Sr., and Marilee Norwest.
Buddy grew up in Portland, lived
in Warm Springs and Grand Ronde
and moved to Willamina in 1990.
Buddy served in the U.S. Army
in Vietnam and was a member of
the Northwest Indian Veterans
Association and a former Eagle
Staff Carrier for the Grand Ronde
Tribal Honor Guard. He worked as a maintenance engineer for
the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde for many years. Buddy
enjoyed shooting pool, camping, fishing and concerts, the annual
Water Front Blues Festival in Portland and pow-wows. Buddy is
a Traditional Dancer.
Buddy is survived by his mother Marilee Norwest of Grand
Ronde, his brothers; Shannon Haskins of Portland, James "Jams"
Lang (Haskins) and Brian Jackson, Jr. of Portland, his sisters; Di
ane Kimbol (Haskins), Denise Haskins and Charisse H. Jackson all
of Grand Ronde, his son; Miles Sky Haskins, and daughters Deby
Haskins, Fawn Haskins and Stormy Haskins all of Portland, and
Charisse Haskins and Julia Haskins of Warm Springs, his eight
grandchildren, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and
many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Buddy Sr., stepfather,
Brian Jackson, Sr. brother Nathaniel Jerome Jackson, sisters;
Debra Haskins and Darcell Haskins.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, September 15 at the Tribal
Gymnasium with burial followed at the Tribal Cemetery.
Carmel Mary Mercier
February 10, 1947 September 14, 2006
Tribal Elder Carmel Mercier
passed away on September 14,
2006 at the age of 59. She was born
February 10, 1947 in McMinnville,
Oregon.
She was the daughter of Vincent
and Catherine Mercier, who pre
ceded her in death. She spent her
early years in Grand Ronde, where
she attended St. Michael's School. In
1958, she moved with her family to
the Portland area. She attended St.
Cecelia School in Beaverton, St. Mary of the Valley High School,
graduating from Beaverton High School in 1966.
Carmel had many interests, such as reading, crafts and exploring
the Portland area. She was very outgoing, and enjoyed meeting
people.
Carmel was often described as being very cheerful and enthusi
astic about life.
Carmel is survived by her two brothers, Lon and Michael; sis-ter-in-
law Tammy; niece and nephew, Kelsey and Jordan; and
friend, Roy.
