Be the first to live in these beautiful homes that offer from 1 to 5 bed rooms. The larger units boast two full bathrooms and a walk-in closet. Eighteen of the homes are equipped with free-standing gas stoves, air conditioning, granite counter tops, hardwood cabinets, energy ef ficient appliances, high quality carpeting, washers & dryers, individual garages, private patios and an expansive green space, complete with water features for the kids! Tribal Housing Offers Trainings & Financial Skills Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority is pleased to be able to offer Homebuyer Trainings and Financial Skills classes to Tribal mem bers. Financial Skills Trainings consist of four 2-hour class sessions and will be held on the following schedule: Tuesdays: September 12, 19, 26, Oct. 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays: October 31, Nov. 7, 14, 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Homebuyer Training consists of three 3-hour class sessions and will be held on the following schedule: Tuesdays: September 12, 19, 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. Sorry, no childcare available. Leo D. Jeff ers 1919 2006 Tribal Elder Leo Jeffera was born July 30, 1919 in Cushman, Oregon to Ira and Bertha (Luce) Jeffers. He was the eldest son of 11 children, 7 sisters and 4 brothers. He is survived by his brother Clarence "Buddy" Henry and Donald Jeffers and sister Mildred, Alta, Betty, Lanora, and Evelyn. He is preceded in death by his wife Lucile and two infant daughters, his sister Doris and Edith and an infant sister. His surviving children are Celia, Leona, Stanley, Diana and Urenda and 9 grandchildren. Leo lived most of his life in Oregon where he met his wife, worked and raised his family. He married Lucile on August 19, 1950. Leo began working at the age of 14 building roads in Western Lane Co. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 at the age of 23 and served 3 years entirely in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. While working for Weyerhaeuser Company as a Cutter in 1964 he also fought fire on Oxbow Fire west of Eugene. He retired disabled from there at age 58. During that time he was a Cutter. He then worked alongside of Lucile at the 7-11 for 9 years before becoming a foster parent which he did until he was age 83. He raised his family and lived in Marcola, Oregon for more than 46 years. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He was always eager to help people in need or his children. His favorite things to do were go to the Oregon Coast to fish or eat seafood and pick wild "Lady Slippers" every spring to give to his wife. He was active out doors until age of 80. Funeral services were held at Springfield Memorial Gardens on Thursday, April 27 with reception at Springfield VFW Hall, 5344 Main Street, immediately following the funeral. Gerald Lafferty Gerald Lafferty 75, a former resident of Grand Ronde, passed away on July 8. He was born on February 9,1931 in Grand Ronde, the son of Paul Lafferty and Elizabeth Leno. He was a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. He was preceded in death by his twin sister Geraldine; sisters, Genevieve Ray, Dorothy Lane, half brother James Chantelle. He is survived by his wife, Vera E. Lafferty; daughter Violet Lafferty-Moore; brother Kenneth Lafferty of Grand Ronde; sisters Margret McAbee, Norma Lee and Juanita Lee of Grand Ronde; three grandchildren. He lived in Smith River, California. He worked as a logger and did mill work. He also worked with lily bulb growers. He lived in Crescent City California, Newport Oregon, and finally settled in Siletz. He loved the mountains and always had a story to tell about log ging, hunting, and fishing in Grand Ronde, of all the people that he logged with. He was most proud of the days when the local na tive loggers met at his mom's house in the early mornings to have breakfast that his mom cooked usually homemade biscuits, venison and gravy.
