Dear Editor: "
For some years now, I have to my delight acquired several friends of the Con
federated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Being a "past" European and therefore not a
"Native American," I must congratulate the staff of Smoke Signals for their April
1 insert in Smoke Signals called, "Motivated Speaker Lifts Tribal Youth."
This article and photos shows the world that the "White Man" has been
wrong from day one about attitude and behavior by rounding up, degrading
them and put them on reservations.
"Indians" do show us what attitude and behavior should be as I have observed
over the past years in Grand Ronde. Attitude, either from Elders towards
Youth and Youth towards Elders and yes, towards us White Men also. I have
lived under oppression and atrocities for some five years during World War
II, I know what that is all about.
To me this article and pictures are a great lesson in attitude and behavior.

Public Hearing To Be Held On Tribal Member
Preference And Hiring Qualifications
Tribal Council will hold a "Public Hearing" on Tribal
member preference and hiring qualifications (this will fo
cus on background checks) at the General Council meeting
on Sunday, June 25, 2006. The General Council meeting
will start at 11 a.m. and the hearing will follow the Tribal
Council nominations.
