Portland Teachers Program (PTP)
For: Students interested in becoming an Oregon certified teacher (K-12)
PTP provides tuition and support services at Portland Community
College and Portland State University or University of Portland for the
coursework to become licensed teachers in Oregon.
The Portland Teachers Program is designed to recruit and help prepare
culturally competent teachers, with a special focus on historically under
represented groups in the teaching profession (African Americans, Native
Americans, Latinos and Asian Americans).

Attention: High School Juniors
(Entering Seniors for fall 2006)
If you think you may be attending college, it is a really
good idea to take the SAT or ACT test (college entrance
exams) in June 2006 because your math and grammar con
cepts are still fresh in your brain and the rush of deadlines
for high school seniors are still a summer away. If you are
not satisfied with scores from the June test you will have
time to re-take the test in September or October 2006.

Looks Within Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship available for students in the following categories: High School
Seniors, Full Time Undergraduates, Full Time Graduates (first year only).
Awards are based on merit and need. Applicants must be at least 18
American Indian, Alaskan Native, or Native Hawaiian descent. Applica
tion deadline for Fall 2005 is June 1. Please visit website for application.

Students Of The Month Spotlight
Tommy Dawson
Tommy is a Kindergartener in Mrs. Evans
class at Faulconer Chapman School in Sheri
dan. Tommy has shown great improvement
in letter recognition, pronunciation and be
ginning reading. He has been courteous to
others and is trying to improve his reading
skills everyday in class. Tommy's attendance
has improved and he is participating more
consistently in all areas of the classroom.
In Tommy's words: His dream is to be a fire
fighter, take care of the fire dog, put out fires,
drive the ladder truck, and slide down the fire pole. His favorite thing
about school is playing with his friends, reading, writing his letters,
and going to the library. Tommy admires his older brother Preston;
he is a fire fighter for SheridanWillamina, and works at the casino.
He lets me play his PlayStation and he treats everyone nice.
Tommy enjoys playing with friends, camping and fishing with his
family, and riding his battery operated motorcycle.
Tommy is the son of Thomas and Janene Dawson, and the grandson
of Vicki Dawson and Gene & Lorna Daniels.
Nikia Mooney-Leno
Nikia attends Willamina Elementary School
and is in Mrs. Fanning's 2nd grade class.
Nikia continues to improve and excel in the
classroom; she has received exceptional marks
on her last two grade reports and works hard
to complete her assignments. She is a caring
young person and a great young Native leader
in her school. Nikia has also shown progress
in her personal development by following di
rections, listening well, respecting others and
reaching her potential.
In Nikia's words: Her dream is to go to col
lege and study to become a volcano scientist. Her favorite subjects in
school are math, P.E., and spelling tests. Nikia admires her cousin
Koana Leno because she is fair and honest, and she is also a good
cousin.
Nikia is involved with drama and sports teams, and the K-5 Program.
Her mom adds that she is a great big sister and loves to dance and sing.
Her favorite show is "That's So Raven" on the Disney Channel.
Nikia is the daughter of Shonn and Egypt Leno, the big sister of
Darien, and the granddaughter of Susie & Jack Lash, Reyn & Liz Leno
and Candy & David Powley.
Jenni Crowe
Jenni Crowe was recognized as a Stu
dent of the Month this past March. She is
a fifth grader in Sheridan at Faulconer
Chapman School and was chosen for her
continued hard work and accomplish
ments in Mrs. Scott's mathematics class.
Jenni is respectful to the instructor,
diligent about keeping up on her assign
ments and works well with other students.
Her favorite subjects in school are science
and math.
Someday Jenni hopes to become an inventor so she can create prod
ucts that would help make the world a better place for everyone. In her
spare time Jenni loves to make home movie skits, walk her dachshund,
'Howie', and spend time with family and friends.
Jenni's parents are Sheila Jordan and Tiko Crowe. Jenni states that
she looks up to both of them for all of the encouragement and help that
they have given her. Her grandparents are Russ and Geneva Klippel.
Congratulations Jenni, keep up the good work!
