Grand Ronde HeadStart
Recruitment rung from April-July. This announcement is for children
who are three years old by September 1, 2006 to children who are five
years old (pre-kindergarten) and income eligible. Our first day of school is
September 5, 2006. Please call Sandy Hobb at 503-879-2161 for an applica- ,
tion or if you have any questions. Selection and notification will be made
by mid-August and you will be notified if your child has been accepted or
declined. Children with special needs are strongly encouraged to apply.
Transportation may be provided.
Wildland Fire Guard School May 16-19
Social Services, in conjunction with the Education and Natural
Resources Divisions, will be hosting a week long Wildland Fire
Guard School the week of May 16 - 19. The school will take place
in the Adult Education Building in Grand Ronde and will run from
8 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m.b Tuesday through Friday. Included
trainings:
S-1 30 Basic Wildland Firefighting
S-190 Introduction to fire Behavior
I -100 Introduction to the Incident Command System
L-180 Human factors on the Fireline
This Fire School encompasses all relevant courses to train students
as a Firefighter Type 2 (Basic Wildland Firefighter). Students must
be prepared for 3 days of classroom activity and one day of field
training on Friday. The Friday field day will be outside, leather
boots and leather gloves are required and raingear is recommended,
all other gear will be assigned for the day. A successful Pack Test
is still required in order to be employable in any wildland fire pro
fession. . . ;

American Indian Graduate
Center Fellowships
The American Indian Graduate Center, Inc., announces the availability
of graduate fellowships for 2006-2007 for American Indian and Alaska Na
tive students from federally recognized U. S. tribes. To be considered for
an AIGC fellowship the applicant must be: Pursuing a post baccalaureate
graduate or professional degree as a full time student at an accredited
institution in the U.S.; Able to demonstrate financial need; An enrolled
member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native
group, or provide documentation of descendency. Application deadline is

Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority
Student Rental Assistance Pilot
Program Announced!
The Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority (GRTHA) is pleased
to notify Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde enrolled college
students attending a post secondary educational institution located
in the Oregon counties of Benton, Clackamas, Lane, Lincoln, Linn,
Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Tillamook, Washington and Yamhill,
of a new program for Student Rental Assistance beginning in the
Summer of 2006. r ?
College students carrying at least a half time program, who have
either individual or household incomes not exceeding 80 of the
HUD published median income for the GRTHA service area are eli
gible to apply. The pilot program will accept all eligible applications
and chose the first twenty students via lottery on June 1, 2006.
Funds for this program provided through the HUD's Office of
Native American Programs from the Indian Housing Block Grant

Attention: High School Juniors
(Entering Seniors for fall 2006)
If you think you may be attending college, it is a really
good idea to take the SAT or ACT test (college entrance
exams) in June 2006 because your math and grammar con
cepts are still fresh in your brain, and the rush of deadlines
for high school seniors are still a summer away. If you are
not satisfied with scores from the June test you will have
time to re-take the test in September or October 2006.

Looks Within Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship available for students in the following categories: High School
Seniors, Full Time Undergraduates, Full Time Graduates (first year only).
Awards are based on merit and need. Applicants must be at least 18
American Indian, Alaskan Native, or Native Hawaiian descent. Applica
tion deadline for Fall 2005 is June 1. Please visit website for application.

Native Vision Scholarship
Applications are available for the 2006 Native Vision Scholarships.
Applicants must be Native AmericanAlaskan Native; be a high school
senior; have a least a 3.0 GPA at time of application; be involved in the
Native community; have demonstrated involvement in extra curricular
andor athletic activities; be admitted to an accredited 2 or 4 year college
university Fall 2006. The 2006 application deadline is May 12. For more
