contemporary Maori weaving will open
September 24 and continue through December
22 at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette
University. "Toi Maori: The Eternal Thread"
features more than 100 woven items from Mew
Zealand collections and is the first time a major
exhibition of Maori weaving has been presented
in the United States. The University is one of
only three venues in the world chosen for this
exhibition tour. Maori weavers will be on site,
explaining their craft, and will conduct
an opening ceremony and procession,
wearing visually stunning cloaks
woven from native plants and the
feathers of kiwi birds.
Festivities, lectures, panel discussions
and weaving demonstrations
are planned for the last week of
September and the first week of
October to celebrate the opening
of the "Toi Maori: The Eternal
Thread" exhibition at the Hallie
Ford Museum of Art at Willamette
University. The Hallie Ford Museum
of Art is located at 700 State Street
(corner of State and Cottage Streets)
in downtown Salem, Oregon near the
Willamette University campus.
Friday, September 23, 2005 starting at
3:45 p.m. at Willamette University's Jackson Plaza:
The Museum and the University, in partnership with the
Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of
Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, will
host a Procession of Nations on the Willamette University
Campus. The Feast will be free of charge. For more

Maori visitors will be touring the Tribal campus
the morning of Monday, October 3rd.

Fitness Classes. They will start Tuesday, September 20 and will
continue for 9 weeks, twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from
6 to 7 p.m. Classes will begin with stretching and breathing ele
ments of yoga. Detailed schedule is below. Class space is limited so
you should call and reserve a space at 1-541-484-7085.
Field trip to the Cascade Raptor Center. Sunday, Sep
tember 18. We will meet at the Eugene area office at 9 a.m. for
coffee, donuts and car pool. Any Tribal members interested in
