Nichaqwli Monument Dedicated The "Encounter at Nichaqwli" was held at the Blue Lake Regional Park near Fairview, Oregon on Saturday, August 6.
This event was organized by Tribal member and Tourism Coordinator Elaine LaBonte (above, left) to commemorate the meeting between Native Americans and the
Lewis and Clark Expedition. The monument, which will be two wooden statues carved by Adam Mclsaac, will represent the lasting legacy of the Nichaqwli People.
The ceremony began at about 2 p.m. The Eagle Beak Singers sang an honor song as Grand Ronde Veterans posted the colors. Metro Councilor Rod Parks (below,
left) was honored with a Pendleton blanket by Tribal Council Chairwoman Cheryle Kennedy and council member Jan D. Reibach.
