2005 Summer Culture Camp
The following is a list of important information concerning this year's
Culture Camp:
First day of camp: Tuesday, July 5 at 9:30 a.m.
Last day of camp: Friday, July 29 at 12:30 p.m.
Regular daily hours of camp: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Mondays through Fridays
Daily lunch is provided
Location: Tribal Youth Ed. K-5 modular
Open to Tribal Youth that are entering l"1 grades in the upcoming
2005-06 school year
Many fun activities and field trips (on field trip days the hours of op
eration may vary)
FREE, no cost for camp, lunch or outings
CTGR Tribal youth that are already enrolled in the CTGR K-5 Summer
Program will automatically be signed-up as participants for Culture Camp.
Application packets for Culture Camp can be picked up at the K-5 modu
lar. Completed applications need to be delivered to the K-5 modular (attn:
Lynden Jones) or faxed to the CTGR K-5 Program at 503-879-4621.

Library Hours
Monday - Wednesday: 8 A.M. - 7:30 p.m.

Saturday: 10 A.M. - 2 p.m.
BOOK CLUB: Adults will meet the second Saturday at noon and
the fourth Monday at 5:30 p.m. We will begin the Marie Dorian series
at the next meeting which will be held July 9.
Summer Reading Program: Begins the week of July 5. Sign up is
required by July 8. The reading program is for children and youth 1
17 years old. Students will log in reading time and books read on track
ing sheets that will be provided by the Library. Parents must sign off
on reading time for children and youth 12 years and younger. Points
can be earned for each 15 minutes of reading. (1 point for each 15 min
utes) Points may be turned in for prizes each week. Name will be en
tered into a drawing for every book read. The Summer Reading
Program runs through July 30.
Summer "Discover Oregon' Program will begin the week of July
5 and ends the week of July 25. Registration is required for the 'Dis
cover Oregon' Program so that we know how many supplies we will
need for each project. Registration begins July 5 and ends July 7. All
sessions will be held at the Library. Sessions are as follows:
Youth in grades K-5 will meet on Tuesday from 3 - 4:30 p.m.
Youth in grades 6-8 will meet on Wednesday from 3 - 4:30 p.m.
Young Adults in grades 9-12 will meet on Thursday from 3 - 4:30 p.m.
Sessions will include a Story time or Learning time with a correspond
ing activity. The participants will create a wall mural for the Library
out of the items made in the activity sessions.
New Collection Items: Approximately 40 new books were pur
chased with the Institute of Museum & Library Services grant fund
ing this past week. A few Titles include:
Health: Living Well, Taking Care of Yourself in the Middle and Later
Years; Eldercare 91 1, A Complete Handbook for Making Decisions; From
Boys to Men, a Woman's Guide to the Health of Husbands, Partners,
Sons, Fathers and Brothers.
Native Authors: Moccasin Telegraph, W.P. Kinsella; Ceremony,
-LesKe-Marmon Silko; Bird Girl and Two Old Women, Velma Wallis.
Young Adult: Harry Potter, Becoming Naomi, Surviving the
Applewhites, The Earth is My Mother.
Chris Mercier made a generous donation to the Library recently by
donating about 30 new titles that includes the work of Hemingway,
Mailer, Wilder, London, Wharton and Camus. These Great Classic Lit
erature volumes are now available for your reading pleasure. In addi
tion, Chris has donated over 20 new DVD's to the Library which have
become a popular circulation item. Thanks Chris!
The Library received another generous donation of books and videos
from Pam Warren and daughters Katherine & Alex. The Warrens do
nated about 15 books that cover topics on wellness and fiction and they
donated 39 videos of Children movies that include most of the great
Walt Disney classics. Your generosity is appreciated Pam, Katherine
and Alex!

Recruitment runs from April-July. This announcement is for children who
are three years old by September 1, 2005 to children who are five years old
(pre-kindergarten) and income eligible. Our first day of school is Septem
ber 6, 2005. Please call Sandy Bobb at 503-879-2161 for an application or
if you have any questions. Selection and notification will be made by mid
August and you will be notified if your child has been accepted or declined.
Children with special needs are strongly encouraged to apply.

Congratulations Dayna Westley recently received her G.E.D. from the
Portland Area Office. She stopped by before a job interview to enjoy her
celebration cake. She is now working for T-Mobile and is taking classes at
Portland Community College.
"I just have to say thank you to Joanne Carr for the positive home that you
gave me to follow my dreams of finishing my education. I have always
thought I was too old to learn anymore. Well, you have shown me a new
optimistic way of flunking about myself and that was because you didn't give
up on me. I'm so grateful to you and to the Tribe for giving me this opportu
nity to prevail in life. Please continue to give that feeling to others."
