One goal of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde is to provide
quality health care and health insurance to Tribal members. This goal
is supported by access to care, quality of care and the costs of providing
care. The Tribe is committed to addressing health care concerns, along
with the continued development of the current health care program.
Currently, the Tribe is in the process of reviewing the health care plan
for Tribal members to address these concerns and would like your feed
back. Several Tribal member health plan meetings are scheduled for May.
The purpose of these meetings is to gather feedback regarding your
experience with UMR including claims submissions, access to doctors,
pharmacy and prescription, as well the overall process and health plan.
This is your opportunity to give input and suggestions on the health
plan and tell us what is working or not. Your participation would be
valued and much appreciated- Please join the Tribal Risk Management
staff, KPMG consultants and UMR on any of the followings dates:
H Monday, May 2 Grand Ronde, Tribal Community Center 6 p.m.
B Tuesday, May 3 Grand Ronde, Tribal Community Center 6 p.m.

Dear Smoke Signals,
The day that I wrote to Smoke Signals for a subscription is the best
thing I've ever done.
Back in the early 60's, during the year of the Alaska earthquake, I at
tended my 9th year of school at the Chemawa Indian Boarding School.
It was with such memory when I noticed the article "Chemawa Pow
wow Celebrates the School's 125th Birthday." There use to be a railroad
track that ran through the campus back then, but now the campus loca
tion had been relocated a little away from the railroad tracks. The other
article I enjoyed reading of is of a Peregrine falcon that had been caught
in a fence. Natives make excellent game managers even without trying to
be one. Wildlife Care Center Director, Bob Sallinger and Jo Elam, all did
more than good for the fantastic bird. "
Thank you fof ith&SmokJ: Signals.
Sincerely,
Mattfi Abruska
Dear Editor,
First, I would like to say how much I enjoy reading the Smoke Signals
and being kept updated on events concerning our Tribe.
I was somewhat upset to -see that the Tribe has again looked after the
members on the "other side of the mountain" and left the members on this
side to be without any help. A Satellite Office in Eugene and Portland,
while the members have help available in Grand Ronde also. What about
the members (especially Elders unable to make that trip) in Central Or
egon area? When are we going to be part of the counties and receive the
help we need. We can't all live in the 10 county area and the council
needs to provide a Satellite Office in the Central Oregon area and add
Central Oregon to the approved county areas.
We have lost our legal representation in this area" Oregon Legal Aide
is no longer available through Grand Ronde. The Elders in this area have
to rely on themselves or just bite the bullet and pay out monies they can
not afford or don't owe because they have no one to turn too.
I would like to hear from the council in regards to legal representation
and a Satellite Office in Central Oregon.
