Time is Running Out to Request Your Tribal
Education Scholarship Application
2005 Education Scholarship applications are now available in the follow
ing categories: Full & Part-Time Adult Vocational Training, Undergradu
ate, and Graduate; Full-Time Eula Petite. You must be a CTGR Tribal
member.
Application deadline is Saturday, April 30, 2005. To request an appli
cation, please call the CTGR Education Division at 503-879-2275 or 1-800-422-0232

The Education Division hosted a student teachers site visit on March 1 1 for partici
pants in the University of Oregon's Sapsik w ala Native Teacher Program. The eight
future teachers spent theiay working and interacting with our own students in the
ECE program classrooms. Pictured above the Sapsik w ala students take their break
visiting Don Day at the Culture area and learn about cedar and the primitive tools
used to manipulate and spilt the logs into planks to build the Tribal Longhouse.

2005 YOUTH SPONSORSHIP
Open to Tribaf Students in grades K-12.
Qualifying applicants can receive up to $200 in sponsorship funds.

Grand Ronde Head Start
Recruitment runs from April-July. This announcement is for children
who are three years old by September 1, 2005 to children who are five
years old (pre-kindergarten) and income eligible. Our first day of school is
September 6, 2005. Please call Sandy Bobb at 503-879-2161 for an appli
cation or if you have any questions. Selection and notification will be
made by mid-August and you will be notified if your child has been ac
cepted or declined.
Children with special needs are strongly encouraged to apply.

American Indian Education
Foundation Scholarship
Applicants must meet the following criteria: be Native American or Alas
kan Native descent; attending an accredited 2-or 4-year collegeuniver
sity or technicalvocational school; must be enrolled full-time; pursuing
undergraduate studies only. Application deadline is May 4 for the 2005
2006 academic year.

2005 Achievement &
Recognition Awards
This year's Achievement & Recognition Award applications were mailed
out the last week of March to all enrolled CTGR Tribal youth in grades
Kindergarten through 12th (ages 5-18 yrs.). Completed applications must
be postmarked or returned to CTGR Youth Education by Tuesday, May 3,
2005. Applications received late will NOT be accepted. If you have not
received your Achievement & Recognition Award application, please con
tact Matt Bucknell in Youth Education at 503-879-2101.
Grand Ronde Tribal Library
The Grand Ronde Tribal Library is located in the Education Building.
Library hours are as follows:
Monday - Wednesday 8 a.m. - Noon and 1 - 8:30 p.m.
Thursday & Friday 8 a.m. - Noon and 1-5 p.m.
Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The library collection contains over 3,000 items that include fiction and non
fiction for youth and adults, a significant Native American collection, a wonder
ful collection of children's books in excess of 100 items, a limited collection of
books on tape, a donated video collection of new and old movies and an impres
sive reference section with all updated materials.
An activity program for youth is held each fourth Saturday of the month for
Kindergarten to 5th graders from noon - 2 p.m. An Adult Book Club meets on
the second Saturday of the month from Noon - 2 p.m. and on the fourth Monday
from 5:30 - 7 p.m. The book club members are reading Mystery books the past
two months and have discussion & comment sessions.
LIBRARY OPEN HOUSE
Saturday, April 16, 2005 from 2-4 p.m.
Please join us as we celebrate National Library Week at the Tribal Library.
Come and learn more about your Tribal Library and the services & materials
available. Special activities will take place in the Library and the classroom.
Refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome! The Library will remain
open until 5 p.m. on April 16. The Tribal Library is located in the Education
Building.
Catching the Dream Scholarship
General information from application: "CTD's objective is to recognize and
reward outstanding student achievement. This supplemental award is intended
to help American Indian students of any age, from any U.S. Tribe, within any
State, striving to get an education. All awards are based on merit, academic
achievement and ambition. To be considered for this scholarship, you must be
an enrolled member and possess 14 degree or more American Indian blood from
a federally recognized, state recognized, or terminated U.S. Tribe. Deadline is
April 15 for Fall Semester."
