To all Tribal members and any others that are concerned:
It is my understanding that our Tribal meetings on Sunday and every
other Wednesday are for meetings not vendettas towards Tribal members
and just because you are mad at a Tribal member don't bring it up at our
meetings "please." I come to these meetings to find out how our busi
nesses are doing the casino, the station, timber and the property we
buy. Not to hear how somebody spoke to someone. Please keep your
fights out of our meetings. I would greatly appreciate it.
May God bless you all!
Love,
Marcia Bolton

Dear Smoke Signals,
Just a note to say thank you for the Tribe for building a great relation
ship with the sponsoring of the Portland Winter hawks. Also, thank you
Smoke Signals for the great article on the Winter hawks. Being an avid
Winter hawks fan and observing how the Winter hawks team excels in
their education, community involvement and service expresses to me the
similarities and qualities that the Tribe has. This team is driven by
hardwork, deep respect for others and their goal of producing the most
exciting sports action Portland has to offer. Thank you Grand Ronde and
Winter hawks and may this relationship continue for years to come.
Sincerely,
Eric Hardin

Dear Smoke Signals,
I am writing to say "thank you" and your staff of Smoke Signals for the
newspaper. The many fine beautiful photos! The smiley happy faces
brings joy and warmth into my life. I am most grateful to the Confeder
ated Tribal Community for the compassion in making this paper a gift to
me. I have no family any longer. Your paper has become a letter from
warm, beautiful people.
I wish each of you, Brent, Justin, Ron, Toby, Peta, Marty and Shelly a
secure, joyful and peaceful year 2005.
May the Higher Spirit as you understand him bless you and keep you.
Respectfully,
Melvin L. Weeks
Corrections
In a photograph for the Elders' Christmas party in the January 1st
issue, we misidentified Tribal member Sophia LaBonte. Kathryn
Patterson was holding Sophia in the picture, but we identified the child
as Anna Fasana.
In the February 1 article about Tribal Elder Dean Mercier, we
misidentified the child sitting on the "Running Bear" dory. It was
Tribal member Tracy McLaughlin, not Doug Colton as we reported.
In addition in that story, we placed the Tribal office in the old rail
road building. In fact, it was in the cemetery building.
We regret the errors and in light of them, we are especially appreciative
for the many compliments that the story received.
Tribal offices will be closed on Monday, Febru
ary 21 in observance of Presidents' Day.
