High School Scholarships Available High school seniors from Oregon and Southwest Washington who have been involved in health awareness activities are eligible for scholarships from Oregon Health Forum, an independent health policy resource. To qualify, students must have done volunteer work, been involved in a research endeavor, worked a health care setting or done com munity service. The application deadline is March 8, 2005 and schol arships will be awarded in June. Oregon Health Forum has been providing scholarships to high school seniors for the past four years in its efforts to help promote greater awareness of health care issues as well as encourage stu dents to consider a career in health care. Founded in 1990, Oregon Health Forum publishes a monthly health policy newsletter and sponsors breakfast seminars on timely health policy issues. Autographs The Education Committee hosted a Christmas dinner and card signing event on December 1 3 at Spirit Mountain Casino. Those present partici pated in the annual signing of over 1 00 cards for our full-time Education students attending college. The evening was enjoyed by Tribal Council members, Education Division staff and the committee members. Addresses Need Updated For Youth Education (6-12) The Tribal Youth Education (6-12) Program regularly distrib utes information about upcoming events as well as our monthly program newsletter. To better serve our youth and families we are requesting that all youth currently attending grades 6-12 have their addresses and contact information updated immediately. Parents, please help your child with this as it is very important that all of our program's youth and their families receive program updates and information in a timely and efficient manner. Grand Ronde Library The Grand Ronde Tribal Library is located in the Education Build ing. Library hours are as follows: Monday Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday & Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library collection contains over 1,500 items. We have fiction and non-fiction for youth and adults, a significant Native American collec tion, books on tape and a limited children's collection. The library has two computers available for use that has internet access. We have an impressive reference section with mostly all new materials. We are in an assessment process to determine the needs of our li brary patrons. Please share your comments about what you think we need to have available to better serve the local community library needs. THE LIBRARY CORNER Now that the holiday rush has ended, it is time to sit back and relax with a good book. We were very lucky to have received a large selec tion of new and almost new fiction and non-fiction from Ronnie Pederson who owns a bookstore in Vancouver. Stop by soon and check out what we have available for your reading enjoyment. We are in the process of moving things around to make room for more individual reading areas and to help serve you better.
