Dear Editor,
I would like to thank the community of Grand Ronde for making the Circle of
Weaving basket weavers gathering a huge success! It was wonderful seeing so
many of our people coming together and a blessing to have a large number of our
Tribal Elders present. I would also like to thank Spirit Mountain Casino: Randy
Dugger, Diana George and Toby TenEyck for being so generous. It was great to-
see our Tribal youth Julian Rock, Eric Sabin, Tony PerkfnB and Scott Brown,
pitch in and dig the pit to cook the salmon while Tribal Elder Don Day volun
teered to cook the salmon. Sam Henny and the Spirit Weavers were also a
blessing as they weaved spirit pouches to gift each of the participants. Pearl
Mekemson was behind the scenes helping out in whatever way she could. Thanks
also go out to our Honor Guard, Healing our Hearts Drum and Carol Logan who
was our Spiritual Advisor during the gathering. Finally, I would like to thank
our Tribal Council for their support of this event. We had a great gathering and
showed our guests from neighboring Tribes what Grand Ronde hospitality is all
about. I believe through more gatherings like this, we will continue healing
and mending our Circle. Again, thank you all.

Dear Tribal members,
I want to get your attention before the next election, we need to be more care
ful who we are voting for to represent our Tribe. They need to look towards the
future and "what they can do for the Tribe "and not "what the Tribe can do for
them."
There are already ones who are wanting to do away with our "per capita" or
invest it, but they need to realize most of the Tribal members are looking for
ward to receiving it and as well needing it for their families, plus we are happy
to pay taxes on our "per capita" because that means at least we are getting it.
Then, there are some who want to pass that people with 132 bloodline (can)
enroll into our Tribe. This we need to stop because if we allow hundreds and
hundreds that only have this amount in, there won't be no "per capita," the
Elders fund will run dry, health care will practically be non-existing and all the
other sources will empty even faster. There are Tribes that stop at 14 or 18 , so
I believe we are being generous at 116 and this is where we must stop. I realize
that my great grandchildren will not be able to enroll but there must be a
stopping point or no one will receive "per capita," the Elders fund, health
benefits or any help because there won't be nothing there. This is what I mean,
that we need ones that will look towards the future .
We need candidates that will put the members first and not how they can get
votes, or how low they will go to receive them. I believe the candidates for the
Tribal Council should have responsibility and personal ethics for their Tribe and
stop this back-biting and ugly rumors that they spread around, so they can get
elected in.
We need a Tribal Council that will speak for all the Tribal members and not
be puppets for the "want to be chiefs," who are telling them what to say and do.
So we need to wake up and put our votes toward the ones who are for the future
and who want to see the Tribe to become stronger.
So please, watch who you are voting in before its too late or they will have full
control of our future and we will not be able to stop them.
Also, I would like to state that if there is anyone with a conflict of interest of any
financial dealing should recuse themselves from voting As well, all the dealings
that are being brought up should be out in the open for every member to see.

To The Editor,
The Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority would like to offer their sincere
thanks to the Grand Ronde community members who volunteered their time
and effort to help in the construction of the new play area at the family housing
development, Chxi Musam Illihi, on the afternoon of Friday, October 29, 2004.
It was a true community effort pulling together to get a job done, and this was a
shining example of volunteerism at its best! We commend each and every one of
the Tribal children and adult volunteers, and we appreciate the spirit in which
your time and effort was given. Many thanks!
Sincerely,
Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority Staff
