After School Programming
The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Youth Education Program is
off and running with their After School Program. If you are a 6th through
12th grade Native American student, come check out our after school ac

Family Night Wednesday, October 20
Reminder, Family Night is on Wednesday, October 20, from 5:30-7:30
p.m. Please come and enjoy the activities with your family. There will be
wonderful activities and great food. Remember, all youth are required to
be with a parent or guardian. If you would like more information about

Association on American Indian Affairs Emergency Aid
The Association on American Indian Affairs offers Emergency Aid Schol
arships to full-time American Indian and Alaskan Native students in
amounts ranging from $100-$400. Students may receive one scholarship
per academic year. There is no deadline for application. Must be enrolled
at least 14 with a federally-recognized Tribe. Please visit website for

Scholarships are available for first time freshman, continuing &
undergraduate students, and graduate students. Must be enrolled
at least 18 American Indian, Native Alaskan or Native Hawaiian.

American Indian Services Scholarship
Full-time or part-time undergraduate students enrolled in a col
lege, university, junior college, or technical school can apply to the
American Indian Services Scholarship. Must be enrolled at least 14
Native American Blood. Applicant must have no more than 150 se
mester credits, or 210 quarter credits and have a minimum cumula
tive GPA of 2.25. Deadline Nov 15 for classes starting in Jan.

Rehabilitation Clients
Education staff will be available to meet with you on Tuesday, Novem
ber 2 at the new Voc Rehab Portland office from 9 a.m. -12 p.m. If you are

We will be holding several presentations on college preparation for
seniors in high school including: Financial Aid, Essay Writing for
Scholarships, Attitude is Everything, Goal Setting, OSAC Scholarship
Applications, Academic Advising, etc. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Rich
Shintaku from Oregon State University. Please call Rachel Warner,

CTSR Tribal Library
September was a busy month in the library. We now have 258
cardholders and are adding more daily. Thank you to everyone who has
donated books and videos as that has helped our collection grow. This
last month we had over 100 videos donated. This month we started our
Mystery Book Club with six members attending. We will meet Monday,
October 25 at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join so just read your
favorite mystery and bring it to discuss with the rest of the group. We
have also started a Children's Fun Day for children under 13 which will
be held on the 4th Saturday of each month from 12-2 p.m. A Hallow
een Party is planned for Saturday, October 23 with games, video,
story and snacks. We encourage all children to wear a costume so we
can get in the fall spirit. If you have a special request for an author or
book let us know so we can put them on our want list. Our regular
hours are Monday-Wednesday 8 a.m. -8:30 p.m., Thursday-Friday 8 a.m.
5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The library is closed during the
lunch hour from 12-1 p.m. If you have any questions please call or stop
by the Education Library.
HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
There are many opportunities to start preparing for college now! Please call
the Education Department to let us help you on your journey: By providing us
your contact information we can keep you updated on local and out of state
opportunities and remind you of upcoming deadlines for education and scholar

If you haven't taken the SATs for college, you need to do so! Save your receipt
and the Education Division can reimburse you the cost for this tost.
The SATs are adding a new writing portion to the test in March 2005, so plan
on taking it in the fall if you want to avoid an extra section.

computer access, please come to the Education Building and use one of our
computers. You will need credit card information to sign up online. I also have
practice tests available for your use to help prepare you for the SATs. Fall
testing dates are November 6 and December 4. You will need to sign up by
