Smoke Signals
JUNE 1, 2004
Dear Smoke Signals,
The family of Merle Leno would like to send out a "Thank You" to the
family and friends for the prayers, visits, cards, flowers and food. Once
again, thank you and God Bless.
Of course we can't forget the wonderful lady, Val Grout and her family.
I also would like to say thank you to the staff who donated their PTO so
that I could stay with Merle.
Thank you,
Claudia Leno & Family
Dear Tribal members,
If you are receiving food stamps, this information is very valuable to
you. I was told by my food stamp worker in McMinnville that the food
stamp office can and would break up the casino revenue that we get in
December into a 12-month cycle, so it would make it look like I had more
money each month. I thought something was wrong with this, so I imme
diately requested a hearing. The Honorable Daryle Walker handled the
case and ruled in my favor saying the money can only be counted in De
cember and not be broken up. Also, the food stamp office was ordered to
pay back all food stamps. If this has happened to you, I strongly urge you
to request an immediate hearing. I hope this information will be benefi
cial to all.
Respectfully,
Veronica Gaston

Dear Tribal members,
Thank you to the Tribe for being there for me and our family. We lost
our loved Grandad, Alvin Chambers, but still have him in spirit to be with
us always.
May we always be such a caring Tribe of brothers and sisters.
God Bless,
Margaret Chambers

KNIFE FOUND
A knife in a leather sheath was found buried in the mud over near the
rodeocultural grounds. The knife and sheath have several identifying
marks. If wanting to claim, please call the Housing Authority toll-free at
1-800-422-0232 ext. 2401, or directly at 503-879-2401 and give a detailed
description of the knife.
Correction In the May 15 issue, in a story about Zane and Brit
tany Grout, we described the two as TaggartGrout children when in
fact they are both Grout children, and in addition, we misnamed them
in the photo captions. We regret the errors.
