MedStars Health Careers Honor Program
Medstars is an exciting, interactive, three day (July 14-July 17, 2004)
residential summer program at OHSU. Activities include working on a
research project on a major health condition and presenting with group
members, and several hands on lab experiments. MedStars is for stu
dents who will be juniors or seniors in high school or freshman entering
college next school year (2004-2005), who are interested in pursuing a
health career. There are scholarships available for Native American stu

SAT Deadlines Are Coming Up!
Most colleges require this for admissions. Good news! Funding is
now available for Tribal members taking the SAT. Please save a
receipt to be reimbursed for this. This is effective 1-27-04. You can
register for the SAT online at www.collegeboard.com. You will need
credit card information to do this. We will also have paper versions
of this available if you need one. You will be able to pay with a check
using the paper version. We have very limited paper copies, so please
access the website if you can. Computers are available at the Educa

Native American Youth Initiative Conference
The Association of American Indian Physicians is having a National
Native American Youth Initiative Conference to motivate Native Ameri
can students to remain in the academic pipeline and to pursue a career in
health professions or biomedical research.
Eligibility: Native American high school students planning to enter health
professions between the ages of 16 through 18 years old are eligible to
apply. Students mush have a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
If students are chosen to attend, all expenses are paid to go to Washing
ton D.C. on June 19-27, 2004.

INDIAN SUMMER 2004
Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, is proud to announce
INDIAN SUMMER 2004, a study, travel and discovery program for law
students, practitioners and others interested in studying Indian law. The
summer program is a multi-faceted summer intensive that incorporates
the best aspects of classroom based learning with many opportunities for
the development of practical legal skills.
This summer, INDIAN LAW 2004 students may choose from courses in
Federal Indian Law, Native Natural Resources, Contemporary Issues in
Federal Indian Law and Indian Jurisprudence taught by experts in the
field of Indian law from around the country. Students may earn two or
three semester hours of credit for each class. The program runs from May
24, 2004 through July 29, 2004 and consist of two five-week course ses
sion and a five-day Field Study through Indian Country in the stunning
Olympic Peninsula. Students may also earn credit for internships with
tribes, Indian law practitioners, government agencies or non-profits orga
nizations practicing Indian law in the Portland area.
In prior years scholarships to attend the program have been made avail
able by generous grants from Oregon Tribes. We anticipate having fund
ing for scholarships again this year. Information about scholarships will
be posted on our web site if and when they become available.

Tylenol Health Scholarship
The makers of TYLENOL Family of Products will award ten $10,000
scholarships and 150 $1,000 scholarships for higher education to students
who demonstrate leadership in community activities and school activities
and major or who intend to major in areas that will lead to careers in
health-related fields and are residents of the 50 United States or the Dis
trict of Columbia.
You may apply for the TYLENOL Scholarship if you will be attending
an undergraduate or graduate course of study in the fall 2004 at an ac
credited two or four year college, university or vocational-technical school.
This includes those students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or
graduate course of study and have one or more years of school remaining.
Past winners of the TYLENOL Scholarship are not eligible to apply or

Bachelors' Degree With Tribal Management
Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute and New Mexico State Uni
versity create a bachelors' degree in general business with a Tribal man
agement option.
Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute currently offers an associ
ates' degree in business administration with an emphasis on Tribal man
agement. Beginning Jan 2004, SIPI students will be able to earn half the
credits they need for a New Mexico State University bachelor's degree in
business administration at SIPI. That would mean SIPI students could
transfer up to 66 credit hours in business science and other fields, includ
ing 12 hours in Tribal management courses. Then, it is expected that
much of the work towards completing the NMSU degree also could be
done at SIPI, through SIPI's distance education facilities. For more infor
