12 FEBRUARY 15, 2004 Smoke Signals I Blanche Marie Lillard April 8, 1918 - January 22, 2004 Blanche Marie Lillard died on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at the age of 85. She was born April 8, 1918 in Grand Ronde, Oregon to August and Delia (Michelle) Ford. I Ier mother died when she was 13 and her father raised her. Blanche married Jasper A. Lillard on March 3, 1944 in Stephanson, Washington. She lived in Grand Ronde, North Bank near Rose Lodge, the Oregon Coast and then re turned to Grand Ronde. She moved to Willamina 35 years ago. Blanche worked for the Polk County Home Extension Office and on the Enrollment Committee for the Grand Ronde Tribe. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing pinochle and canasta and loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Jasper in 1985 and daughters Ruth Cooper in 1985 and Shirley Flansberg in 1995. She is survived by her daughters; Donna Casey of Grand Ronde, Norma Billings of Willamina, Yvonne Merrow of Nevada, her sons; Phil Warren, John Lillard and Butch Lillard of Grand Ronde, 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great grand child. Michaelle D. Kimsey October 2, 1947 - February 2, 2004 Michaelle was born in Lebanon, Oregon on October 2, 1947 to Ray and Lois Lee. She graduated from Taft High School and moved to Grand Ronde in the early 70s where she met Marvin Kimsey. They worked in Sandy, Oregon for four years then moved back to Grand Ronde and married in 1985. Michaelle was employed by the Willamina School District as a home school counselor for several years where she assisted children aca demically and culturally. She held craft classes every Wednesday and Friday. She taught beading, moccasin making and drumming. She was the first to teach beadwork in Grand Ronde since the termi nation of the West Coast Tribes in 1954. She was involved in the Spirit Mountain Rodeos for five years do ing everything from budgeting, to obtaining sponsors, to common la bor. The long hours of preparing for the rodeos didn't leave much spare time, but she managed to find the time to organize and open a food bank in Grand Ronde in 1999. She worked two days a week at the food bank distributing food boxes. She also included youth rodeo and junior bull riding into her busy schedule. Michaelle had a passion for helping people and has touched a lot of hearts in her lifetime. She will be missed and will never be forgotten by all. Michaelle is survived by her husband Marvin Kimsey, daughters; Laura Place, Colleen Branson, Christie Loomis, Virginia Roof and Karen Kimsey; sons; Rob Lambert and Duke Kimsey; 14 grandchil dren and two great-grandchildren and her brother Mike Lee. Funeral services were held at the Tribal Gymnasium with burial following at the Tribal Cemetery. Sally Ruth Parazoo Sally Ruth Parazoo was born, and passed away, on January 16, 2004, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon. Her parents were Tribal member Luke Parazoo and wife Brenda Betsch-Parazoo. She left behind a brother, 6 year old Paxton, who named her. She is the granddaughter of Tribal member Dan Parazoo and wife Debra and great granddaughter to Carol Parazoo. James Russell Shelbourn 1960-2004 Funeral for James Russell Shelbourn , a longtime resident of Grand Ronde, was held recently at Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home, with Pastor Joel Boyce officiating. Private burial was in Buck Hollow Cemetery, Willamina. Mr. Shelbourn died of natural causes January 17, 2004, in Or egon Health & Science University Hospital, Portland. He was 43. He was born on November 6, 1960, in Fort Ord, California. He moved to Grand Ronde from Fort Lewis, Washington, in 1967. He was a graduate of Willamina High School and loved music. He played guitar and trombone in high school, and liked to write and sing music. His hobbies included model rockets and he also loved to socialize with his friends. Survivors include his mother, Barbara Shelbourn of Grand Ronde; sister, Carrie Hosley of Grand Ronde; a brother, Marvin Shelbourn of Grand Ronde; his significant other, Lois Yurkievich of Grand Ronde; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin L. Shelbourn. A very special and Happy 21st Birthday to Jocelyn Donnell Morningstar Kirk "Jawz" from all your family and special friends.
