2 FEBRUARY 1, 2004 Smoke Signals Dear fellow Tribal members, A friend of mine took me home from work on Saturday, January 10. When we arrived at my house, they didn't notice it, but I sure did. Someone took the time to scrape off and clean the excess snow and ice in part of my carport and to my front door. I don't want to know who did this, but you helped me kind of change my tune for the moment. Itgavemeasenseofhominess. Something a single homeowner wishes to have more of. Again, thank you to whoever you are, you made me feel good. Sincerely, Grand Meadows Resident David E. Riggs Roll 1112 Dear Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, My name is Jimmy Phillips and I am an enrolled Yakama Indian from Wapato, Washington. I am currently incarcerated in the Federal Correction Institution in Sheridan, Oregon as well as 60 other enrolled Native Americans from across America. The reason why I'm writing is to ask help from you for assistance in finding a spiritual advisor that can come in for our purification ceremonies, Sweat Lodge and other spiritual ceremonies. We are all trying to better our selves for the future, but we cannot know where we are going unless we know where we came from and heritage and religion go hand in hand on who we are as Native Americans. If anyone can help, please write us back so we can work something out. Thank you, Jimmy Phillips Federal Correctional Institution Jimmy Phillips 08225-085 P.O. Youth Education will be hosting two family nights per month, with a different activity being the focus each month. Mercier, Cultural Specialist for Youth Education, will organize the events and post an e-mail to inform the public on dates and times.
