The next Tribal Education Committee meeting has been scheduled
for July 14, 2003 at 5:15 p.m. and will be held at the Tribal Education
bldg. Rm. 126. Since the first Monday of July is right after a holiday
the meeting has been changed to the second Monday.
GED CLASSES
Monday and Wednesday 1:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m.
Held at the Education Department classroom and computer lab. Open

Diversity Makes a Difference Scholarship
Nominations For High School Students
If you know a high-school student who is a champion of diversity, you
can help that student win a $1,000 scholarship from the Northwest Asian
Weekly Foundation. Teachers, counselors, principals and community mem
bers are invited to nominate high-school students from Western Wash
ington who are visionaries and champions of diversity. Five winners will

Free Masters' Degree In Teaching At
Morgan State University
Morgan State University is recruiting for the Master of Arts in Teaching
(M.A.T.) Program. This program is TUITION FREE and GUARANTEES
EMPLOYMENT during and after the program for those who qualify. You
must have a Bachelors' Degree in Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, His
tory, Mathematics, Music or Physics, cumulative GPA of 3.0 for all under
graduate work, take the Miller Analogies Test and obtain three letters of
recommendation. If this applies to you then your tuition will be paid in
full for this two year program and you will be able to teach grades K-12
while in the program earning the salary of a beginning teacher. Partici
pants are also guaranteed an additional three years of employment with
the Baltimore City School System.

2003 Before & After Care Registration
The Before & After program is accepting applications for 2003 summer
program. The facility is located behind Grand Ronde Elementary School.
Summer program began June 12 and continues through August 15.

The Education Committee has two vacant membership positions. One
is for a Committee member position and one is for the student represen
tative position. The student representative position requires that the
Tribal member be attending a post secondary training or education in
stitution full time. Applications are available at the Tribal Education

Scholarship And Job Opportunity Web Site
In an effort to increase the number of minority students who take ad
vantage of federally funded scholarship and job opportunities, a govern
ment agency has created a Web site consolidating information on such
programs.
The site, called e-Scholar http:studentjobs.gove-scholar.htm and de
signed by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, lists government
scholarships, fellowships, grants and internships geared to high-school,
undergraduate and graduate students.
The e-Scholar site contains details on internships for minority students,
opportunities to travel abroad, and specific programs, like the White House
Fellows program.

The Oregon Youth Challenge Program (OYCP) is looking for potential
applicants ages 16-18, who have dropped out of school or are close to drop
ping out and are interested in completing and earning their diploma and

HeadStart Recruitment Ends In July
This announcement is for children who are 3 years old by September
1, 2003 to children who are 5 years old (pre-kindergarten) and that
are income eligible. Our first day of school is September 2, 2003. Please
call Tersa Stewart at 503-879-2161 for an application and if you have
any questions. Selection and notification will be made by mid August
and you will be notified if your child has been accepted or declined.
Children with special needs strongly encouraged to apply.
Reminder to Current STTC&DE Students
The STTC&DE Programs can help with the required textbook and sup
plies needed as you return to school but only required materials. The
cost of any "extras" you purchase at your college or school's book store
(school sweatshirts, food items, etc.) are your responsibility and cannot be
paid for out of Education Division funds. If you are unsure about a par
ticular item, please check with the Continuing Education office prior to
purchase.
