Smoke Signals
Dear Smoke Signals,
I would like to say thank you to everyone for their support while my
husband Al was in the hospital.
Thanks to Tribal Council for the flowers and family members for their
gifts and support.
Special thanks to our kids for their love and support during our hard
time.
Also, thanks to the Pharmacy and Tribal Clinic Nurses and Sharron in
referral.
Thanks so very much,
Norma & Al Billings
Dear Smoke Signals,
I would like to say thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that
helped me at the Moccasin Class. I thought I was okay when I left home,
but the ramp did me in.
Again, thank you and thank goodness for caring people such as your
selves. And second, thank you to Tribal Council and staff. Thank you for the
beautiful flowers.

Dear Smoke Signals,
I have such a large family that I knew the only way to reach all of them
was by your publication. Recently, I had a five-way by-pass on my heart
and believe me, I hope not to go through that again. But the night before
this happened, I was so worried. I knew that I was going to be flat on my
back for weeks and most of all that I was going to face this alone or at the
most with my wife and I. But thank God for family. My sister Betty called
about then and I told her what I felt, she said, "Kenny, don't worry. The
family is going to help you. Just get well." She was so right. Never could
I ever imagined or even dreamed how much letters, cards, telephone calls,
stuffed toys and flowers.
How much help you all were to me. But most of all, your prayers, the
hundreds and hundreds of prayers that went up for me. I believe that in
surgery, Jesus held my right hand, the family held my left. Again, may
God bless you all: My brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces. Also, my two
girls who came and stayed until I came home and I can't forget my wife
who stood beside my bed untill I got home and she still is here. I love you
all.
Thank you, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde for the beautiful flow
ers you sent. That was so kind of you. Thank you all with love.

Dear Tribal members,
This is letter to give BIG thanks to the Education Department, espe
cially April Campbell. She made sure everything was in order and kept
me positive through the whole 18 months.
I have just graduated from Western Business College on February 5,
2003 with an Associates Degree in Applied Science.
When I decided to go back to school, I had to write a letter asking me
why I wanted to do this.
My reply was: I want to give back to my heritage for all they have given
me and my family.
Sol am doing just that, I have just received an job offer with NARA in
Portland, Oregon.
What a great opportunity. Also, a big thanks to family and friends.
Its never to late to go back to school, , I believe anyone can do it.

Dedication On March 1, local Professional Boxer Vic
tor Branson knocked out Reggie Lowe in Washington at
the Emerald Queen Casino in the first round. Branson,
who won the fight in only 1 minute and 54 seconds, said
he dedicated the fight to the late Michaeli Holsclaw and
he is shown here at right holding her picture as the ref
eree raises his hand in victory. Holsclaw died in a car acci
dent on January 30 - the same night Branson was fight
ing in Portland at the Rose Garden. "She was a good
friend to everybody."
