"Down to Earth Dad" Patrick Mitchell will present a practical workshop
on the importance of male involvement in a child's life and how fathers
can make a positive difference.

ANNOUNCING: Extended hours at the Education Division Library Media
Center! Beginning March 1, 2003 the library will be open from 9:00 a.m. until
1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Services that will be available will include: Books and
material check out, applying for a library card, browsing and using reference
materials including access to computer and Internet use. The library collection
has increased over the past year and includes all new reference books, a video
library, an audio library as well as local and state newspaper and magazine
subscriptions. The library regular hours are Mon. - Fri. from 8:00 Noon and
1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and is operated by existing Education Division staff. All Tribal
& community members are welcome to stop in and check out our new library
and the services we have in place.
Morns K. Udall Native American Internship
The deadline for the Morris K. Udall Native American Internship program
was February 3. In order to enlarge the application pool, we're willing to work
with interested students (law students, grad students, undergrad juniors and
seniors with an interest in the Federal government) who still want to submit
applications this month.

Education Trust Fund Scholarship Program Summer Internship Opportunity
The Tribal Education Trust Fund Scholarship Program is designed to
recognize and provide financial support to Tribal members who have dem
onstrated scholastic and leadership abilities and wish to continue their
Education. The Scholarship program is open to ALL Tribal members,
regardless of residence, age or need.
Eligibility Requirements: provide verification of Tribal enrollment; sub
mit a complete application by April 30.

Eula Petite Memorial Scholarship, Education students
Priority fields of study for the Tribal Scholarships are: Law, Education,
Health, Natural Resources and Business. The Eula Petite Memorial Schol
arship is for Education and Teaching degree only (student must be at the
Junior level).
Scholarships are renewable so long as the student meets minimum aca
demic and attendance requirements and remains within established time
frame for completion.
HMSVC INTERN PROGRAM -SUMMER 2003
B Three full-time equivalent undergraduate students from June 16th
through September 14th, 2003.
B Renumeration is at the hourly minimum wage and inexpensive
student housing is available.
Educational Outcomes for Interns
B Gain practical experience at public interpretation of the results of
current marine research.
B Acquire skills in interacting with the public and developing infor
mal science educational materials
B Undergraduate credit, if approved
Student Responsibilities
B Presentation at the Markham Symposium in June, 2004.
B 32 hours per week in interpretive duties; primarily estuarydock
public tours, auditorium and informal demos, and floor coverage dur
ing volunteer shift change or closing.
B 8 hours per week on student projects; additional student time for
completion of their project is expected.
Suggested Intern Projects
B Multimedia auditorium presentations on marine research.
B Assemble database on V.C. demographics.
B Develop auditoriuminformal ed. presentations.
B Create picture key of tank animals.
fl Develop and evaluate tank talks.
Skills and Training
B Education and science majors are encouraged to apply.
B Must have ability to work with people of all ages, and is physically
fit for climbing and hiking.

Alaska Natives School and Work
The National Center for Cooperative Education (NCCE) was es
tablished to better serve American Indians and Alaska Native stu
dents interested in pursuing careers in natural resource fields with
tribes, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) or other natural resources
agencies. The NCCE offers tuition assistance of up to $5,000 annu
ally, Summer employment ($8 $10hour), Employment opportu
nity after graduation (BIA and Tribal professional level positions),
and Life insurance and health benefits.
REQUIREMENTS;
B Finished sophomore year in college, be in good academic
standing, and attending an accredited college or university.
B Pursuing at a minimum, a Bachelor's Degree.
B Majoring in natural resources field.
