Chemeketa Placement Tests
If you are a new student pursuing a degree or certificate, you will be
asked to take a free placement test (ASSET) in order to be accepted for
admission. Test results more than five years old are not valid. The pur
pose of the test is to determine your skill levels in reading, writing and
mathematics so you can select the entry-level classes that are right for
you.
ASSET will be offered Tuesday, April 8. The placement assess
ment will be held in Education room 126A starting at 1:30 p.m.

This test will be offered the second Tuesday of every month at 1:30 p.m.
in the Education building, room 126A.
HeadStart Recruitment Starts April-July
This announcement is for children who are 3 years old by September 1,
2003 to children who are 5 years old (pre-kindergarten) and that are in
come eligible. Our first day of school is September 2, 2003. Please call

questions. Selection and notification will be made by mid August and you
will be notified if your child has been accepted or declined. Children with
special needs strongly encouraged to apply.

Scholarships for Minority Law School Students
The American Bar Association Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund.
They will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each schol
arship recipient attending an ABA accredited law school. An award
made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two ad
ditional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 dur
ing his or her time in law school.
Evaluation Criteria:
This includes whether an applicant is a member of a racial or ethnic
minority that has been underrepresented in the legal profession; fi
nancial need; personal, family, and educational background; partici
pation in community service activities; and the applicant's personal
statement.
Eligibility:
H An applicant must be entering first year of law school in the 2003
academic year.
B Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0
scale.
B Applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

Eastern Washington University Scholarship
Eastern Washington University has three tuition scholarship awards
available. The American Indian Achievement Regional Scholarship is
sponsored by Bonneville Power Administration. This scholarship pro
vides tuition renewable for up to four years of study at Eastern Wash
ington University. The award is for a Tribal member with financial
need and a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Annual renewal is con
tingent upon maintaining a 2.0 GPA, remaining a full time student at
EWU, regularly meeting with a BPA representative, and writing and
delivering a progress report to BPA each academic year.

a copy of the scholarship application packet.
The completed packet must be received in the EWU Financial
Aid and Scholarship Office by Friday, April 11, 2003.

Tylenol Cash For College Sweepstakes Application
The makers of the Tylenol Family of Products will award ten $10,000
scholarships and 150 $1,000 scholarships for higher education to stu
dents who demonstrate leadership in community activities and school
activities and who intend to major in areas that will lead to health
related fields.
You may apply to the Tylenol Scholarship if you will be attending
an undergraduate or graduate course of study in the Fall of 2003 at
an accredited two or four-year college, university or vocational-technical
school. This includes those students currently enrolled in an
undergraduate or graduate course of study and have one or more
years of school remaining.

Youth for PROMISE 2003
Are you a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at Or
egon State University, Portland State University, Oregon Health and Sci
ence University, or Willamette University? If yes, you are eligible for the
PROMISE 2003 internship opportunity.
The purpose of PROMISE is to provide a quality work experience and
expose interns to careers in state and local government. PROMISE in
ternships are for 10 weeks, during the summer. Undergraduates earn
$4,000 and graduate students earn $4,800. Internships must be project
management oriented, and professional, technical, or managerial in na

2003 National Fire and Home Safety Poster Contest
It's time for children within the six county service area to sharpen their
crayons and dip their paintbrushes.
All submitted posters must illustrate a "fire safety" or "home safety" theme.
Children in K-8 are eligible to participate. All entries must be original
and created by crayons, markers or paint. Posters must be on 8.5" by 11"
paper.
This year's winner can select one of two prizes $1,000 or a trip to
AMERIND'S 17th Annual Meeting and Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada in Octo
ber 2003.
Entry forms are available through the Tribal Housing Authority. Contact

ted to the Housing Authority office no later than April 30, 2003.
NWIHA SCHOLARSHIP FOR TRIBAL YOUTH
The Northwest Indian Housing Association annually provides scholar
ships to Tribal youth, defined as individuals ages 24 years old, or younger.
The intent is to provide financial awards to youth for education and training
programs at schools, colleges, job training organizations, sports camps or
other worthwhile organizations. Traditionally, individual awards have not
exceeded $1,000. Applications are available by contacting the Housing Au
thority at 503-879-2401. Applications must be turned in to the Hous
ing Authority by April 24, no later than 5 p.m.
