Short Term Training Programs
These programs are available in the following areas:
B Radiologic Technology: An 18-month intensive program that pre
pares students through a progressive, outcomes-based educational
format. Students will receive a 2-year certificate with an option for
an associate's degree if additional general education requirements
are completed.
Training Dates: March 31, 2003 to September, 2004.
B Public Safety Dispatcher (911) Program: This program is designed
to provide students with a basic working knowledge of virtually all
aspects relative to emergency communications.
Training Date: Spring 2003
B Pharmacy Technician Training: This training is an opportunity
for people interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician and pass
ing the National Certification Test. It is a 15-week program.
Training Date: Late Summer, 2003.
B Veterinary Technology Training Program: This 15-week program
will provide prospective veterinary assistantstechnicians with basic
education and experience in commonly used medical and surgical
techniques, as well as an understanding of common disease states.
Training Date: Fall, 2003.
B LBCC & Western Pacific Class A Commercial Drivers License Train
ing: This course stresses safe and efficient operation of various types
of tractors and trailers.
Training Dates:, March 10, 2003 to April 8, 2003, April 9,
2003 to May 9, 2003, May 12, 2003 to June 10, 2003.
B Call Center & Customer Service Training: This is a 4-week train
ing, designed to provide the necessary skills for entry-level customer
servicecall center related fields.

Attention Future Teachers!
Teacher Education Program
(For graduate students only)
This is a component of the University of Oregon Native American Ini
tiative. The goal of this program is to prepare American Indian teachers
whose knowledge, skills and cultural sensitivity will bring about long
term, and much needed improvements in the elementary, middle and high
school educational experiences of American Indian youth.
Eligibility:
B A member of an Indian Tribe or band, as membership is defined
by the Indian Tribe or band, including any Tribe or band termi
nated since 1940, and any Tribe or band recognized by the State in
which the Tribe or band resides or a descendent of a parent or grand
parent who meets the requirements described above or considered
by the Secretary of the Interior to be an Indian for any purpose.
B Hold a Bachelor's Degree by the time they begin the program.
B Have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 or provide evidence of
graduate potential.

Shame Free Parenting Class To Be
Held On Thursday, February 27
The Early Education Department is sponsoring an insightful train
ing "Shame Free Parenting" presented by Shawn Horn, APA Intern
from Spokane Mental Health-Child & Family Program. This two hour
training will be offered at either 2 or at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Febru
ary 27 in the Adult Education Building. For more information or to

Summer Internship Opportunity
Wells Fargo Bank Corporate Banking Summer Intern Program 2003
Opportunities are available at corporate offices in San Francisco, Los
Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and selected cities in the
East Coast and Midwest.
Paid internships are given in areas such as capital markets, commercial
banking, corporate banking, international banking, real estate and real
estate investment banking.
Eligibility Requirements:
B Must be an undergraduate with U.S. permanent resident status
or U.S. citizenship.
B All majors are considered, with a minimum GPA above a 3.3.

B 3-6 credit hours of accounting, particularly in coursework related

Special Summer Award Opportunity
Special Summer Award Opportunity for Graduating High School Se
niors: University of Oregon Native American Summer Bridge Program,
UO Department of English:
B This coming summer the University of Oregon Department of English
will offer its fourth annual Native American Summer Bridge Program.
This special award program is designed to provide students from under
represented groups who are entering the University of Oregon in the fall
of 2003 an opportunity to ensure a smooth transition from high school to
college.
B The Summer Bridge Program gives students a jump start on university
work with an inter-cultural learning experience centered on course work
in Native American literature, expository writing and contemporary Na
tive American issues.
B Students accepted for the Native American Summer Bridge Program
will be provided with tuition, room and board on campus during the 8
week 2003 summer term (June 23 through August 15) and an allowance
for books and school supplies. Upon completing summer session work,
students will have earned 9 credits of college-level work (5 percent of total
credits required for graduation) and will carry the honor of being a par
ticipant in this program with them into their university career.
Applications should include the following: a brief essay (2-3 double
spaced or neatly hand-written pages) in which you describe your commit
ment to cultural diversity, citing relevant academic achievements, com
munity work, and personal experiences along with any plans you may
have to apply your experience and education to living in and contributing
to a multi-cultural world. In addition, please include a separate page with
your name, mailing address, telephone andor e-mail address, social secu
rity number (optional), and a statement giving permission to The UO En
glish Department faculty to review your UO application materials (tran
