George Fox University will host an informational meeting to be
held at Grand Ronde Jan 22, 2003, in the Adult Education Building
Room A126 from noon to 1 p.m.
The Department of Professional Studies offers four majors to adult
students who are returning to college to complete their undergradu
ate degrees.
Courses are designed to meet the needs and learning styles of work
ing adults. Classes are conveniently located and meet one night each
week. Locations include Salem, Eugene, and Portland.
Students who successfully complete the courses of their major pro
gram and the accompanying degree requirements are granted either
a bachelor of science degree in management and business informa
tion systems (MBIS), or a bachelor of arts degree in social and behav
ioral studies (SBS); management and organizational leadership
(MOD; or management of human resources (MHR).
Applicants to the management degree programs and the social and
behavioral studies program must have a minimum of 62 semester
hours of transferable college credit from accredited institutions or
approved military education. General education requirements, total
ing 35 semester credits, should have been met upon entrance.
Through these programs the Department of Professional Studies
helps the student assess personal values, develop interpersonal skills,
and enhance competencies in order to better contribute to the organi
zations and individuals they seek to serve.
10,000 Steps Walking Program
WHAT: 10,000 Steps Walking Program to begin Thursday, January 16.
Group will meet weekly through January at 11 a.m. at the Community
Center. Meetings will be monthly beginning February 6.
If interested, please call Egypt at 503-879-2078 to register. A 30-minute
appointment will be scheduled prior to the first meeting in January.
Participants will need to purchase a pedometer prior to the January
meeting. They will be available at cost through the Wellness Depart
ment. WHY: Incorporating more activity into one's daily routine results in health
benefits similar to those seen in a structured exercise program. Daily
walking combined with diet therapy is a useful means for obese individu
als with diabetes and those who are at risk of developing diabetes to im
prove glucose sensitivity and to reduce body weight.

These scholarships are for individuals who are officially enrolled in "Fed
erally Recognized Tribes." Applications are rated on the student's aca
demic record, evaluation forms and essays.

Smithsonian Native American Internships
Appointments are offered to Native American students, who are formally
or informally related to a Native American community, to pursue intern
ship projects related to Native American topics and using Native Ameri
can resources at the Smithsonian. Appointments are spent in residence at
the Institution's facilities under the supervision of Smithsonian research
and professional staff members. Appointments of 10 weeks are available
to undergraduate or graduate students, and provide stipends and a travel
allowance. Contact to the Office of Fellowships and Grants for further
information.
Term: 10 weeks
Deadline: February 1 for Summer (to begin after June 1)
June 1 for Fall (to begin after October 1)
October 1 for Spring (to begin after January 1)
