10,000 Steps Walking Program
WHAT: 10,000 Steps Walking Program to begin Thursday, January 16.
Group will meet weekly through January at 11:00 a.m. at the Commu
nity Center. Meetings will be monthly beginning February 6.
Recruitment to begin December 17; Call Egypt at 879-2078 to register.
A 30-minute appointment will be scheduled prior to the first meeting in
January.
Participants will need to purchase a pedometer prior to the January
meeting. They will be available at cost through the Wellness department.
WHY: Incorporating more activity into one's daily routine results in health
benefits similar to those seen in a structured exercise program. Daily
walking combined with diet therapy is a useful means for obese individu
als with diabetes and those who are at risk of developing diabetes to im
prove glucose sensitivity and to reduce body weight. The 10,000 Steps
program uses a pedometer (step-counter) to track activity.
WHO: Tribal members who are interested in increasing their physical
activity.
For more information on this event, you can also call Darcy Trego, CDE
Tribal Diabetes Program at 503-879-4618 on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons.

The technical amendment was adopted, on an emergency basis pend

The purpose of the technical amendment is to clarify the term "self

tion (g)(2) has been amended as follows (added language is under

der (such intended self-help remedies being those non-judicial rights
and remedies against or with respect to Collateral not then within the
control or possession of the secured party, the exercise of which by the
secured party could cause to occur upon the Reservation a violation of
the duty not to exercise nonjudicial remedies in a manner which could
breach the peace), as may from time to time be amended, and Oregon
statutory and common law of contracts are adopted as substantive law
of the Tribe, except to the extent inconsistent with other Tribal law
and the sovereign immunity of the Tribe. All reference to the "Secre

vices and the Tribal Attorney's Office has proposed revisions to the
Tribe's Indian Child Welfare Ordinance. The first reading of the pro
posed Ordinance revisions was on September 25, 2002.
