2 AUGUST 1, 2002 Smoke Signals Dear Editor, We, (The Larsen Family), thank everyone, relatives and old friends, for taking time out of a busy weekend to help celebrate my 86th birthday. It was very nice to see everyone. Thanks to my six beautiful kids for making it possible, and thanks to Spirit Mountain Casino for letting us have the party in one of their ban quet rooms. The lovely flowers, cards, not to mention the money tree, are all greatly appreciated. Thank you all very much for a wonderful day!!! Verna (little old lady) Larsen Roll 419, and family Dear Smoke Signals Editor, I have to share my most wonderful surprise. Over the weekend, my granddaughter, Darla Martin, her husband Rick and their two sons, Mark and Mike, ages 16 and 14, came to visit me. I haven't seen them for years. I just have to share my happiness with other old grannies like myself who know the happiness of seeing nice teenagers again. They were two of the nicest teens I have ever met since I was a youngster back in the early and middle '30s. They were drug free, alcohol free, pot free and my how you can tell the difference. They were just two happy teen agers filled of fun and laughter. They had such great manners. They didn't wear hats or caps in the house and I've even seen men wear base ball caps in church. They came and told me good night and hugged me and their parents at bedtime. They haven't forgotten the word of excuse me. When they left, each one came and hugged me. It was like a breath of fresh air. How proud my granddaughter and husband must be of them. And they were so easy to talk to. Yes, they were 16 and 14 years old. I, like most people my age, have grown fearful of teenagers, there is so much stuff they do nowadays. This is not to hurt anyone God knows, I have my share of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and also 3 great-great-grandchildren, so I too know the heartache of seeing loved ones go astray and you cannot do anything or say anything but pray. Teenagers seem to think that after you're 50 years old, you're old fashion or stupid. They tear your heart to bits and walk off, without even an "I'm sorry or thank you." But my heart was so full of thankfulness, for my Darla and her dear husband. I just had to share the happiness with other grandmas too and to tell my beloved great-grandchildren, Mike and Mark, how very proud they made this old granny and I do know it takes two to do the job. Again, I say Darla and Rick, you did a wonderful job. You both are to be commended. I dearly love you all. I know your father Dennis C. Chandler, Sr. must be ever so proud of you all. Thank you for coming over. I've always told my children, "take care of each other" and God will do the rest. Geneva M.
