Local boarders look
for a place to skate.
By Peta Tinda
Two local moms have decided there is need
for a skateboarding park in Willamina and
they are raising funds to have one built.
Currently the only suitable place in Willamina
for the kids to skate is either in front of the local
library or out in the street, both of which are
exposed to traffic.
"It's a safety issue," said Valorie Sheker
Robertson, who has three sons who all skate
board, roller blade or ride "razor" type scooters.

and donations, to raise about $6,000 in the first
three weeks of their fund-raising, including one
anonymous donor who was originally going to
give $1,000, but instead decided to give $2,000
for the planned skate park. They hope to have
the park built by next year.
"So far, the community reaction has been
mixed," said Sheker-Robertson. "There are a lot

Veteran's Memorial Auction

Had the kitchen sink been offered up for pur

was, those attending the Veteran's Memorial
fund-raising auction on Saturday, October 20
would have to settle for pie, pictures and even a
treadmill to satisfy their impulses. And on this
rainy night in the Tribal Community Center, if
it was sellable, it was sold.
