Dear Editor,
In July of this year I attended the
Grand Ronde Veteran's Pow-wow. I
wish to thank all the people who
made this gathering possible.
It was a very emotional, spiritual
and respectful event.
I salute the Tribe; for this is the
first time anyone has ever thanked
me for doing my duty so long ago.
Just a soldier,
Jerome Roger
Dundee, Oregon
Thank you Tribal Council;
On behalf of myself and my wife
Sharon (secretary), all our Veteran
flag carriers, Norris Merrill, Gene
LaBonte, Ron Tuomi, Bear Robertson
and alternates Ron Richison and Carl
Lambert. We thank you for your
support of the Tribal Veteran Color
Guard. For without your support,
we could not function as representa
tives of our Tribe and Veterans.
Sharon and I were truly surprised
and very honored at the Veteran's
Pow-wow when Kathryn Harrison
(chairperson) and councilman Ed
Larsen presented us with a beauti
ful Pendleton jackets and the kind
words Kathryn said to all in atten
dance. She praised our Veterans
Committee and Sharon for the hard
work they have done.
In addition, I thank Susie Mooney,
Carol Nelson and their helpers for
preparing the dinner on Saturday
and on Sunday. Thanks to Carl
Lambert and the Veteran's wives for
a good breakfast.
Thanks to Eric Scott, who kept ask
ing me, "Is everything okay, Marce?"
To all his people: Mike Larsen, Curtis
Rentch and their hard workers
Bobby Mercier, Lenny Logan, Doug
Colton, who did all the grounds work,
showers, mowing, etc. They went all
out to help us Thank all of you.
Thanks to Reyn Leno (a marine)
for his help and support.
Thanks to a very dedicated lady
who came and gave her time and
support to sell tickets for our Ad-Hoc
Memorial fundraiser and raffle,
thank you Val Grout.
Thank you to John Robertson, Jess
Robertson and Ron Robertson for
their very generous donation to our
memorial fund Proceeds from their
bottled water business, The Spirit Mt.
LLC.
And in ending Yes, even though
Veteran Committee sponsors the Vet
eran Pow-wow, it took all of the
people and departments, from the
Tribal Council down to the clean-up
people, to all the people attending to
make this event happen.
Again, a weekend I shall always
remember.
Thank you,
Marce Norwest
