ODS Benefit Changes Effective September 1, 2001
These changes will affect all partici
pating members and non-member
spouses of the Tribal Health Security
M068 and M067 ODS health plan.
All members on the M068 plans will
be transferred to the M067 plans. All
members of the M067 plans will re
main on that plan, but enjoy the in
crease in benefits.
Your plan number will now be
MO67-00 for member adult, MO67-01
for children 18 years and younger,
and MO67-02 for non-member
spouses. Below you will find the new
benefit structure. When you see an
in-network doctor ODS will pay 90
percent of usual and customary
charges. When you see an out-of-net-work
doctor ODS will pay 80 percent
of usual and customary charges.

ing the directions for choosing a pri
mary care physician in your area.
When you receive your new card
from ODS, please discard your old
card. If you do not receive a new ID

Ruby Rink
Tribal member Elaine D. Smith, 61, of Grand Ronde, died June
27 in the Salem Hospital. She was born April 5, 1940, in Dallas,
Oregon; the daughter of Ernest and Mabel Pichette Gaston. She
grew up in Grand Ronde and attended St. Michael's Grade School
and Willamina High School, graduating from Taft High School
in 1959.
She married Duane Smith in 1960 in McMinnville. They were
divorced in 1973. She worked as a cook for the Elders of the
Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, retiring in 1998.
She loved horses and owned many over the years. Her hobbies were doing cross
word puzzles and collecting and watching movies.
- Survivors include her mother, Mabel Gaston of Grand Ronde; daughters Teresa
Bailey of Grand Ronde and Tammy Garrison of Monmouth; brother, Richard Gaston
of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were held July 2 at St. Michael's Church in Grand Ronde. Father
David Janes officiated. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Can
cer Society in care of Macy & Sons, McMinnville.

Ruth Mercier
Ruth Mercier, 70, passed away July 8. She was born
July 25, 1930 in Goodlett, Texas. She moved to Willamina
in 1942 and then to Grand Ronde in 1950. Ruth married
Tribal member Darrel Mercier on January 25, 1950.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in
Grand Ronde.
Survivors include her husband, Darrel; sons, Mark,
Douglas, John and Lowell, all of Grand Ronde; daugh
ters, Carmen Brown of Sheridan, Barbara Lake and
Margo Mercier of Grand Ronde, Constance Lopez of Sells,
Arizona; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 11 at St. Michael's Church in
Grand Ronde.

Opportunity House, Sheridan School District's alternative school.
Survivors include his mother, Tribal member Marilyn roner oi onenum, a onou,
Nicole Kristine Porter of Independence; and a brother, Joshua Thibeadeaux of Cas
cade, Idaho. Services were held on July 19 at Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home.
Ruby Esmer Rink, 102, passed away June 29 in Grand Ronde.
She was born November 28, 1898, in Waukegen, 111., to Swedish
immigrants August Theodore and Charlotte Lotton Anderson
Lindstrom.
Her family moved to Clarkston, Washington in 1904 where she
attended schools. She met Robert "Earl" Rink while working at a
store in Cottonwood, Idaho and in 1925 married him in Clarkston.
They were married for 65 years. The couple moved to the
Portland and Westmoreland area where she worked for Springfield Tire and Mont
gomery Ward and had a daughter and three sons. One son, Wayne, passed away
when he was three years old.
After Earl retired, the couple traveled extensively, visiting every continent but
Antarctica. The couple moved in the early 1960s with their son Richard to Grand
Ronde. The land is now Grand Meadows.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1991.
She had been a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and the Daughters
of the Nile for 45 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in
Grand Ronde.
Survivors include sons, Gary Rink of St. George, Utah, and Richard Rink of
Paradise Valley, Arizona; daughter, Mary Mead of Portland, 10 grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Graveside services were held July 2 at Green Crest Memorial Park in Sheridan.
Memorial services were held at the United Methodist Church in Grand Ronde.
Paiute Chief Vernon Henry-
First elected Paiute Chief of the Warm Springs
Paiute Chief Vernon
Henry died on July 11
in a motor vehicle ac
cident. He was 66
years old.
Chief Henry was
chosen Paiute Chief in
1987. His loss will be
greatly felt by family
and friends, including
those with whom he
worked in Tribal gov
ernment. "It is a tremendous
loss to Indian Coun
try," said Louis Pitt,
the Director of Warm Springs Govern
ment Affairs.
As leader of the Paiute Tribe for over
14 years, Chief Henry had a long-term
memory of Tribal business. He added

people," said Pitt.
Chief Henry died at
the scene of a single
vehicle accident.
Chief Henry was a
passenger in the ve
hicle. The passing of Chief
Henry is the second
death in less than a
year of a Paiute leader
on the reservation.
Wilson Wewa, Sr.
died earlier this year.
Chief Henry is survived by four chil
dren and had a son who passed away
earlier.
Burial was held on Saturday, July
14 at the Agency Longhouse.
