B Every 30 seconds a child is poisoned in the
United States.
D A child who ingests a poison once is likely to
do it again.
D Child proof caps are not child proof, they are
child resistant.
Seventy percent of all poisoning occur in chil
dren less than 6 years old.
These are some of the facts that were taught
at the Grand Ronde Health and Wellness Cen
ter on January 19 at the BabyToddler Health
& Safety Day. Parents and children were walked
through stations to find out the "what's wrong
with this picture" scenario.
"We are trying to bring attention to the fact
that safety hazards do exist in all homes," said
Linda Mann, Dental Hygienist. "We need to
make all parents especially new parents
aware of all the risks. Safety is something that
is very important to us here at the Health and
Wellness Center."
The safety day featured home and child safety,
stations and demonstrations, child development
checks, dental screenings, snacks and prizes.
The Oregon Poison Control Center provides
first aid and treatment recommendations for vic
tims of poisonings. The center can be reached
every day, around the clock, by calling 1-800-452-7165.
The best treatment for poisoning is
to prevent it from happening.
What's wrong in
these pictures?
These were just some of the stations
that were on display at the
BabyToddler Health & Safety Fair.
Be sure to securely latch all safety gates
and never leave a child unattended.
Children are very curious and could possibly
harm themselves by climbing or falling down.
When you have children in the house you can
never be too careful when it comes to safety.
