From ice, snow, wind or the rain we must all all precautions to remain safe from "Mother Nature." DRIVING CONDITIONS CAN BE HAZARDOUS if you're not prepared and alert to the conditions of your vehicle and the road. Make sure that your automobile is tuned-up and the mainte nance is taken care of. Check your battery for a full charge. A weak battery can't sur vive a cold spell. Check your tires, they determine how well you stop and also your control on the road. Proper traction and inflation ensure a safer ride. For increased visibility change your windshield wipers every 4 6 months and keep your washer-fluid reservoir full. In case of a breakdown or an accident, one should carry a win ter survival box in their vehicle. The box should contain the follow ing: short tow rope, flares, extra clothing, booster cables, ice scraper, matches and emergency candle, flashlight, fist-aid kit and blanket. FLOODING CAN HAPPEN QUICKLY with heavy rains or snow- melt. If you encounter high water be cautious. Just six inches of moving water can sweep you off your feet. Do not drive into flooded areas. If your car stalls abandon it immediately and if possible seek higher ground. POWER OUTAGES are common with our annual windstorms. Remember to have an emergency kit at home. The kit should contain these items: battery operated flashlight and radio, blanket, emergency candle and matches, canned food with a hand-operated can opener, a first-aid kit and a couple gallons of clrinking water.
