NOVEMBER 1, 2000 15 The Pap Test A Healthy Habit For Life B Why is a Pap Test important to me? Because it can save your life! D What is a Pap Test? It's to test to check for abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix (the opening to the uterus). It is also the first step in screening for cervical cancer. When found early, cervical cancer is easier to treat. D When should I start having a Pap Test? When you are: age 18 or older, or under age 18, and have had sex. How often do I need a Pap Test? Have a Pap Test every year, or more often if recommended by your health provider. Older women need Pap Tests too. Even women who have already gone through the change of life (menopause) need a Pap test every year. Women who have had a hysterectomy (surgery to remove the uterus) should ask their health provider how often they need to have a Pap Test. D Please call your provider and make an appointment today. Samson Loomis Age: 6 Birth date: May 2, 1994 School: Home Instruction Family: My parents are Sam and Christie Loomis of La Pine, OR. I also have an older sister who helps me a lot in my home school education. My maternal grandparents are Marvin Kimsey and Eleanor Kimsey of Grand Ronde. My paternal grandparents are William (Bill) Loomis who has passed on and Shirley Loomis of Lincoln City. I also am very fortunate to have great grandparents who are Loren (who re cently passed on) and Nora Kimsey of Grand Ronde and Clifton and Helen Reynolds of McMinnville. Some of my school activities include learning how to read words. I can read most of all of the signs when we go to town like, McDonalds Blockbuster, Aladdin's Palace Arcade, Go-Karts, Toys R Us, and words like that. We also did a lot of exploring the out doors this last school year. My Dad and I go exploring the area where we live almost every day. We see a lot of wildlife like lizards, tree frogs and bull frogs and deer and squirrels and my Dad even found a horny toad! It looked like a miniature dinosaurl We always let the animals go that we catch but we liked the horny toad so much we kept him for a whole month before we let him go. We often see coyotes going through our yard to go to the river. We invited a group of home schoolers to come to our house every Thursday to work on all sorts of Arts & Crafts. It was great fun and I met a lot of new friends. My biggest interest is learning how . vwf . things work. I like to build with Legos.... A LOT! I'm very creative with them and build a lot of neat Star Wars things with them. Star Wars is one of my fa vorite movies. Where I live it gets very hot in the summer and the snow gets REAL deep in the winter! I love to be outside when ever I can whether it is cold or hot! I have been swimming a lot this sum mer at McKay's Crossing which is near Paulina Peak. I love the area I live in. There is a lot to do here. If you are ever in Central Oregon, you can go to the High Desert Museum where I have been attending classes for kids called, "High Desert Explor ers." The museum has a lot of Native American history there. It has been a lot of fun and I've learned a lot about my heritage and culture. Mom asked me what I want to do when I grow up and I said, "I want to stay home and work out and take care of my family." Editor's Note: We would like to apologize for the error in the 1999-2000 Honor & Recognition Keepsake Issue. Samson was listed as a 3rd grader. He has just com pleted kindergarten.
