Tribal Youth takes
Karate Seriously
Tribal member KENNETH SE
QUOIA LEWIS II, age nine, traveled
to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in the
2000 Las Vegas Legacy Internationals.
Kenneth entered 5 events and
brought home 5 trophies. 1st place
Weapons, 2nd place Traditional Kata,
3rd place Contemporary Kata, 4th
place Contemporary Kata to Music,
and 4th place Sparring. Unfortunately, while sparring Kenny dislocated
his thumb in the sudden death portion of a tied match. He chose to continue
and compete in his final match. Kenneth kicked his way through, losing by
1 point and securing the 4th position.
This was by far the largest and most competitive tournament for young
Kenneth. In preparation, Kenny spent many hours at home training as
well as 4 days a week, 3-4 hours per day at the dojo with his main instructor
Shihan Jerry Piddington and his private instructor Sensei Denise Jensen.
Both instructors are World Champion title holders.
The 2000 Legacy International has now qualified Kenneth to compete in
the Super Grands World Championships. This competition will be held in
December of this year, location has yet to be announced.
Kenneth is an extremely dedicated and hard working young man, in addi
tion to his Karate training he is also an honor roll student and studies the
guitar with emphasis on classical and blues. His parents are very proud of
his accomplishments and would encourage any letters of support from our
fellow Tribal members. Kenneth can be e-mailed at K53947aol.com.
