Tribal Elder Dean Mercier and his wife Christina Mercier were joined by Willamina's
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4211 Commander Lloyd Abbott in honoring
Christina's son PFC Keoki Santos who was killed earlier this year in an experi
mental military plane crash in Arizona. A special service was held for Marine
Santos at the Tribal Cemetery.

AMVETS Regional Commander Gary Carver (right) is flanked by visiting Veteran
August "Gus" Smoorenburg while he addresses those in attendance about the
relationship between the Tribe and local Veterans' organizations. Carver pre
sented the Tribe's Veterans' Memorial Committee with a check for $500 to go
towards the planned memorial. The memorial will honor Tribal Veterans and
non-Tribal Veterans from Grand Ronde, Willamina and Sheridan.

The Grand Ronde Tribal Council received a plaque of appreciation from the Yamhill
County Disabled American Veterans Chapter and Unit 5. The plaque was in
appreciation of the Tribe's donation of a new van to provide transportation
disabled Veterans from home to the hospital and back again. The van was
donated through the Tribe's Spirit Mountain Community Fund.
