4 Smoke Signals if I Thank you Hello, my name is Ali Holsclaw and I just recently went to Se attle for the Northwest Indian Youth Con ference. While I was there, I was competing for the Miss Northwest Indian Youth Conference for 2000 2001. I took third place. I would like to say thank you to everyone who encouraged and sup ported me with the raffle tickets. I would like to say a special thank you to my Dad Tim Holsclaw, my Grandpa Bob and Grandma Gayle Mercier, Leonette Galligher, Cindy Watkins, Bonnie Tom, Jackie Pro vost and Phil Collins. It was very much appreciated. I would also like to thank Lisa Leno, Dustin Harmon and Richard Sohappy for helping me and encouraging me while we were there. I want to thank my mom es pecially for going through all the trouble of getting me there, making my moccasins and helping me with all of it. I want to also thank Janel and Christina Lara for helping me with my hair while we were there. Thank you, Ali Holsclaw Roll 2146 Dear Editor, Recently I was out of the office for almost two months due to a problem with my neck. This letter is a special thank-you to all of you who sent cards, flowers, letters, kind words, phone calls and the prayers. A spe cial thanks to all the people in my office, Wellness, for doing my work while I was out. I am well again and back to work. I cannot tell you all just how much I appreciate you, but please know that I do. Sincerely, Jill Jeffers Roll 1895 Dear Editor, Concerning the abrupt, and I felt ill-considered dismissal, of the men tal health counselors, I felt it was ir responsible. I can't help but think it was poor judgment without an alter nate plan in place for the people. Counseling in mental health is an on going process that requires trust and continuity. We had that with these people. We'd come to respect their education and experience. There was a promise of healing. Now the progress we had and the ground we lost, may never be re gained. It's reminiscent of old, they promised, we trusted. Explain if you can, this latest abandonment.
