CLIP AND SAVE

The following is a tentative summer activity schedule for students that are in
the 6th-12th grades. Along with this schedule, the Tribe's Youth Education pro
gram will be offering camps, conferences, workshops, and sports activities that will
be announced later.
The Youth Center will be open every week this summer from noon to 5:30 p.m.
on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The weeks will alternate with one week
of scheduled activities (see below) and the next week will be open use of the
Youth Center and special activities. For all activities please meet at the Youth
Center unless otherwise specified. Permission slips will be required for all trips
traveling out of the Grand Ronde area.

Chemeketa Community College for
their Building Construction program.
This course offers skill building in
all areas of residential and some com
mercial construction, including:
use of tools and materials
reading construction drawings
learning to work with concrete
framing
construction estimating
roof construction
students will get first hand experi
ence building a brand-new home.

Volunteer's
needed May 20
"Down by the Riverside"
On May 20, from 9 a.m. to 1
p.m., volunteers are needed at
their favorite waterside areas as
part of the fifth annual Down By
The Riverside: Enhancement,
Cleanup and Appreciation Day.
More than 70 parks and facilities
all over the state will work with
volunteers on cleanup projects.
Some sites encourage boaters, wel
come divers, or offer lunch.

Last year, more than 2,100
people all over the state removed
135,000 pounds of debris and com
pleted countless projects.
Sacred Landscapes" conference
Oregon State University will host its second annual "Sacred Landscapes"
conference in Corvallis on May 18-19, hoping to draw several hundred Na
tive Americans from Pacific Northwest Tribes to campus to talk about the
environment. The theme is "Walking Softly on the Earth," and the roster of
Native American speakers will address several topics relating to the environ
ment from their unique points of view.
The keynote speaker will be Winona LaDuke, a well-known activist for
Native American rights and women's rights, who lives on the White Earth
Reservation in Minnesota. LaDuke, who currently is the vice presidential
running mate for Ralph Nader, will speak on "All Our Relations" and read
form her book of the same title. LaDuke's talk will begin at 6:45 p.m. on
Thursday, May 18, in LaSells Stewart Center. Her readings, and a recep
tion will follow later in the evening.
