Students interested in furthering their education gathered at the Commu
nity Center on January 21 to discuss the admissions process and how to
prepare for college. Tribal members from different colleges gathered to dis
cuss vital information and answer questions from the students.
Representatives included Elizabeth Bickford, the Financial Aid Adminis
trator from the University of Oregon. She discussed the financial aid process
as Allison Davis-White Eyes from Oregon State University discussed the
entire admissions process. Allison is the Director of the Office of Indian Edu
cation for OSU. Carol Monroe, Student Loan Processor, of the Student As
sistance Center (formally Oregon State Scholarship Commission) informed
students of scholarships that were available. Marion Mercier, the Tribe's
Education Specialist, was at hand discussing the education programs and
the scholarship programs. All together, this workshop provided valuable
information helpful to all who attended.
For those interested in more scholarship information, they can access the
World Wide Website of the Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC)
at www.osac.state.or.us. The site offers access to more than 150 sites with
free information about scholarships and financial aid.
