Participating in the Royalty Court is an excellent chance for young tribal women to represent the Tribe in a positive way. It does require commitment and time, but it is a tremendous honor. There will be dance, protocol, craft and speaking classes that will help prepare you to be on Royalty. Any young lady who would like to participate in Royalty to gain experience may as a Princess, and not compete this year for a Queen position. Fill out the application form provided and send it to Royalty Board 47225 SW. Hebo Rd., Grand Ronde, OR. 97347. We encourage any interested young lady who is a tribal member and between the ages of 5 and 21 to join us. Participants must be enrolled members of the Grand Ronde Tribe, drug and alcohol-free, childless, and never married. If school age, must be attending school (private or public) full-time. The age categories are: Miss Tiny Tot 5-7; Jr. Miss 8-12; Sr. Miss 13-17; and Miss Grand Ronde 18-21. The girls must be within these ages by January 15, 2000. Participants must have their own regalia. It is not the responsibility of the Royalty Board, Tribal Council, or any other tribal program to provide this. Members of the Royalty Court are not paid a salary or wage. However, the chosen queens will receive stipends and a budget for travel expenses for attend ing required events. The Royalty Court and their families must show good judge ment by not participating in any activity that could bring adverse publicity to them selves or the Tribe. Participants must have a parent or sponsor who is willing to assist them in attending required events, and help with activities that Royalty is involved with. All members of Royalty must comply with the guidelines and the Royalty agreement. The deadline for submitting an application is February 29, 2000.
