The brand new building gleamed in the heat of the Indian Summer, as a DJ played and raffle prizes were given out. The Tribe's new economic development project, Russellville Commons on SE 102 and Burnside, includes 283 units, a large swimming pool, twenty four hour fitness, a modern club house and a conference room with two computers for the tenants. In spite of the competitive rental housing situation in Portland, this housing development has the advantage of being extremely close to the MAX light rail transit system and apart ments are affordable. Becky Hear, site manager, says that currently 154 units are ready for occupancy. The Tribe's investment in the $44 million housing project covers 11 V acres and will expand the Tribe's economic versatility. Even tually the project is planned to cover retail and office spaces, a child care facility, community center and underground parking. The collaboration of Grand Ronde with a number of agencies has further strengthened the Tribe's relationships with the public.
