14 Smoke Signals On June 7, our RV caught on fire. We had planned to live in it for the summer while we looked for a per manent place in the Grand Ronde area. Our motorhome caught on fire while driving back from Salem. Luckily, the gas tanks never ignited. However, the motorhome and all its contents were damaged or destroyed. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The consideration and support given by so many people has been wonderful. A special thanks to the Dallas Fire Department and Inci dent Response Team for their speedy arrival, and to Officer Von Meter of McMinnville, thank you for going the extra mile for us. The eulogy was from Mother's grandchildren who expressed their love and admiration of their grandmother, who had touched each of their lives in special ways. Mother's nephew, Ed Clark, sang a Sioux Honor Song as the casket was sealed. My youngest son, Frank Summers, sang the final Sioux Honor Song as the casket was lowered into her grave. There was a memorial dinner and gathering following the services. My daughter, Kristy Summers, had the lead for the services. My niece, Rena Alvarodo, had the lead for the dinner. Mother was very active in the Klamath Tribe Elder Program and we chose them to receive memorial donations. She so looked forward to each visit with the Klamath Tribal Seniors and to the many trips they took over the years. With Mother's death, I am now the Elder of our family. It is a responsibility I accept with honor and respect for all our departed loved ones. My daughter, 4 sons, 7 grandsons, and granddaughter are my descendants.
