Tribal youth attends
education initiative in D.C,

daughter of Joann and Gordon Empey,
and student at McMinnville High
School, recently participated in the Na
tional Native American Youth Initiative
held at George Washington University
in Washington, D.C. June 19-27.
Erica was one of only 42 Native stu
dents selected from across the U.S. to
attend this program for youth interested
in health, biomedical research, and
policy development. This educational
program was made possible through
funding by the Office of Minority
Health and the National Institutes of
Health and was hosted by the Associa
tion of American Indian Physicians
' (AAIP). Good, work, Erica!
Frybread stand for sale
The Pow-wow Committee will be taking blind bids for the frybread stand at the
pow-wow on August 20-22. Bids must begin at $500. .
Bids can be turned in to the Pow-wow t-shirt stand by 2 p.m. on Sunday, August
22. Mail-in bids must be postmarked by August 9 and can be sent to: Frybread
Stand, co Dana Leno, 9615 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde, OR. 97347. . The
winner will be announced at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 22 during the pow-wow.

who were married last winter in Reno, Nevada.
Jack and Julie were classmates in Brookings, and now live in
Eugene. Jack is a tribal member, and the son of tribal member
Arlene Beck and the late Jack Giffen, Sr.'
White, Voitik exchange vows
Michael James White, formally of Willamina, and Delila Nadine Voitik of
Louisiana, MO. were united in marriage with a double ring ceremony on
Saturday July 3 at 4 p.m. at the Riverview Park in Louisiana, Missouri. .
The groom is the son of Orrin 0 "Buddy" and Anna White of Grand Ronde,
and Curtis and Wilma J. '.'Sue" George of Mexico, MO. He is the grandson
of Edna Worthington and the late
James "Buck" Worthington of Wil
lamina, OR. He is also the great
grandson of the late Sam and Clara
Riggs of Grand Ronde.
The bride is the daughter of Robert
W. "Bob" and Nancy N. Irvin of Loui
siana, and the granddaughter of
George and Jean DeGeare of Kansas
City, MO.
During the lighting of the unity
candle the bride and groom were
graced by the presence of a pair of
eagles passing over them.
The couple will reside in Louisiana, ,
Missouri. . -
