8 Smoke Signals Girls prepare for Royalty Grand Ronde Royalty has eleven girls participating in the Royalty Func tions this year, plus the two reigning Queens. It takes a lot of commitment to attend and learn the things required of Queens. These girls have been meeting every Wednesday night the last three months practicing dancing, speeches, and Royalty protocol. This court at tended the Spirit Mountain Stampede, the Sheridan parade (with their float winning second place out of fifteen entries), the Pi-Ume-Sha celebration in Warm Springs, and the 1 lie" : ' Willamina Fourth of July parade. These girls are preparing to attend the Veterans Pow-wow, the July-umish Pow wow in Post Falls, Idaho, the Grand Ronde Elders Day, the Siletz Pow-wow and the Grand Ronde Pow-wow. All these girls are nice, talented individuals, who are doing a great job representing their tribe. The Royalty Board would like to express their gratitude to these girls and their parents for their dedication and great work. Not pictured is Jenny Bailey. iflrcmira? rerany? israugiwgi Pageant winner will compete in Nationals f3 ; TV Congratulations to tribal member NIQUE OLSON for all her accomplishments in the American Coed Pageant. Nique is five years old. She at tends Grand Ronde Elemen tary School and is a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Nique recently participated in the American Coed Pageant held in Portland, Oregon. She was selected as the first place winner in the Miss Model com petition. In addition, she was selected as first runner up in both Talent and the Pageant Queen competition and second runner up in the Miss Photogenic competition. She now holds the title Miss Grand Ronde Oregon American Coed Princess. These awards resulted in invitations to the National Pageant, not only for Queen Title but also to participate in the Photogenic and Talent competi tions as well. The National Pageant will be held Thanksgiving Weekend in Orlando, Florida. For information call: (503) 879-5522. Frybread stand for sale The Pow-wow Committee will be taking blind bids for the frybread stand at the pow-wow on August 20 22. Bids must begin at $500. Bids can be turned in to the Pow wow t-shirt stand by 2 p.m. on Sun day, August 22. Logo winner; meeting announced The Pow-wow Committee would like to thank all of the contestants who submitted their artwork for the logo contest winner. This year's winner is JON GEORGE, Grand Ronde tribal member.
