FYI: Human Resources
JULY 15, 1999
By Marion Mercier, Education Specialist for the Tribe
Students should plan now
for future deadlines
To be considered for funding in the Higher Education Program and
the Adult Vocational Training Program a completed application must be
submitted to the Tribal Education Department by the following dates:
November 1 Winter TermSpring Semester (January)
February 1 Spring Term (Mid March)
July 1 Fall TermFall Semester (August and September)
To be considered for selection for a Tribal Trust Fund Scholarship,
completed applications must be submitted by April 30 of each year.
For those of you who take one or two classes per termsemester or who
wish to take specialized training and seminars, please apply to the Short
Term Training ProgramContinuing Education Program at least two
weeks in advance to the class start date. Short Term Training Program
funding is limited to $600 quarterly (three months) for tuition, books
and fees only. Students must send class or training registration infor
mation in order to be considered for funding.
All students are required to submit copies of grade reports, certificates
of completion, verification of attendance, or some kind of documenta
tion that verifies successful completion of class or training for which
funding was administered. If such verification is not submitted, the
student then needs to make arrangements to reimburse the Education
Department for funding received. This applies to all of the Tribal Edu
cation Programs.
Changes to Adult Education Program
D Summer hours for the on-site Adult Education Program coordina
tor are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. Please call the
Tribal Education Department to confirm that the coordinator is on-site.
P Chemeketa GED Instructor is on-site at the Education Department
on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
D The Education Department continues to be without a Department
Manager and we are short staffed in other areas as well. Please bear
with those of us that are here as we do our best to provide service in the
most effective manner. With over two hundred students and over one
hundred schools and training providers to work with it does get difficult
keep up with day to day requests. Sometimes it is taking two to three
days to process requests so please just be patient with us, we appreciate it.
