FEBRUARY 15, 1999 9 Native American applicants sought for second Hatfield fellowship D Pete Wakeland, the first recipient, is in Washington D.C. right now working for Sen. Wyden. The Tribe has announced that it is now accepting applications for the second Mark 0. Hatfield Congres sional Fellowship. Each year, the Hatfield Fellow will be selected from Native American applicants to serve as an intern for a member of Oregon's Congressional delegation. This year's intern will serve in Sen. Gordon Smith's Washington, D.C. office. "I am honored to host the second Hatfield Fellow in my Washington, D.C. office. The Fellowship provides young people of the Pacific North west American Indian Tribes the opportunity to help make a differ ence in their personal lives as well as contribute to the quality of life within' their communities," said Senator Smith. 'The Hatfield Fellowship will seed Indian Country with capable, moti vated individuals who know their way around Washington, D.C. and produce long-term benefits for the tribes and the Pacific Northwest," said Chuck Galford, Board member for the Spirit Mountain Community Fund which oversees the Fellowship program. Love, your granddaughter Ronnie Bears Join ongoing Veterans' meetings The Grand Ronde Veterans' Color Guard hold meetings on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. These meetings are held at the Natu ral Resource (Forestry) Building lo cated at 47010 S.W. Hebo Road. All Veterans are welcome and encouraged to attend. Applicants must be adult members of a federally-recognized tribe in Or egon, Washington, Idaho, or Mon tana. Preference will be given to the nine recognized Oregon tribes. BThe Hatfield Fellow will be ro tated every year among the House and the Senate members of Oregon's delegation. HEach Hatfield Fellow will serve nine months and will receive a sti pend, moving and travel expenses, and participation in a special Ameri can Political Science Association orientation. Community classes Landscaping & Design Early Childhood Education These classes can only be offered if enough interest is generated. At least 12 people must enroll in each class to offer it jn Grand Ronde. If you are interested in taking either of these classes for Spring Term 1999, please call Hollie at 879-2275. Ed. Committee seeking members Applications are being accepted for openings on the Education Commit tee, which meets once a month, and two planning sessions a year.
