The Tribe has started employing
security officers at the administra
tive offices (Governance Center).
The purpose of this is to provide more
security and safety for everyone. It
is provided 24 hours per day. If you

Grand Ronde Veterans'
Royalty requirements
In addition to Grand Ronde Royalty, girls may also apply to be involved
in the Veterans' Royalty. The Veterans' Royalty also appears at the
Grand Ronde pow-wow, other Grand Ronde tribal events, and travel to
different veterans' events, pow-wows, and cultural gatherings that the
Color Guard also attend. If you or someone you know is interested in
participating in a Royalty Court for the upcoming year, now is the time
to start thinking about it. Royalty Court is an excellent chance for young
members to represent their Tribe with pride and dignity. It is an obliga
tion which requires a lot of time and commitment, but it's also a tremen
dous honor. Girls cannot participate in both the Veterans' Royalty and
the Grand Ronde Royalty, so please choose the Royalty Court you are
most interested in.
All interested girls must be able to
meet the following guidelines in or
der to be eligible for the Veterans'
Royalty Court:
D Girls must be enrolled members
of the Confederated Tribes of the
Grand Ronde.
Participants should have never
been married and have no children.
D All girls must be enrolled in and
currently attending a public or pri
vate school.
D All girls participating must be
drug and alcohol free; " ' ' '
D They must have one year pow
wow experience.
D They must have their own rega
lia, or be able to make their own re
galia before the application deadline.
Participants must be willing and
able to attend all Veterans' events,
and be prepared to represent the Vet
erans and the Tribe. . ,i "
D Must have a parent or sponsor"
willing to participate and attend ac
tivities with the girls andor provide
transportation.
D Royalty Court participants and
their parentsponsor must attend all
required events (pow-wows, parades,
fund-raisers, organizational meet
ings and others). Absences can be
prearranged with the Royalty Com
mittee Advisor. Three unexcused
absences will result in disqualifica
tion from Royalty Court. Please, note
that all participants receive 1 point
for every event. Royalty Court par
ticipants are expected to stay for the
duration of the events. This includes
helping setup for events such as
meetings and parades, as well as
dancing during Grand Entry and
staying until .the flags are retired
unless pre-approved with the Roy
alty Advisor. Participants are ex-
i! pected to speak in front of large
groups of people: Royalty Court par
ticipants must be willing and able to
dance. : Remember: You are all pah
' of a team and are expected . to treat
yourselves, running mates, and oth
ers with respect at all times.
D As of July 9, 1999 girls must be 9
to 13 years of age for Junior
. Queen; and, ! 14" to 18 years of age
for Senior Queen.
D Entries must be received by Tues
day, March 2, 1999.
D A mandatory meeting will be held
at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2 at
the Natural Resource Building.
