Special topic class to focus on
Grand Ronde Culture and Heritage
The Education Division is sponsor
ing an OSU Ethnic Studies Special
Topics class entitled "Grand Ronde
Culture and Heritage" during Fall
Term. The class will be held two days
per month through Fall Term at the
Tribal Education Building.
The class will focus on pre-contact
lifestyles of the Grand Ronde peoples,
field trips to selected sites, the basics
of collecting and preserving family
histories, and discussions with tribal
leaders and guest speakers.
The class will be taught by Kurt M.
Peters, Assistant Professor of Ethnic
Studies at OSU. The cost of the class
is $360, but tribal members may con
tact Hollie Larsen to apply for Short
Term Training Assistance.

has been designed for both credit stu
dents and individuals. Class times are
scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays,
October 9-10, 23-24, and November
6- 7. Friday classes will be held from
7- 10 p.m. and Saturday classes will
be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

sentation about family violence called
Loves Me, Loves Me Not: A Real Story
of Violence and its Affect on Family
on Friday, September 18 at 6 p.m.
at Grand Ronde Elementary School,
after the Health and Safety Fair. Be-

Bins will be available at the Recy
cling Depot between September 18
and October 2 for the purpose of re
cycling old phone books. The Depot
is located behind the Public Works
offices on Grand Ronde Road.

and safety fair
The 3rd annual Grand Ronde
Health and Safety Fair will be held
on Friday, September 18 starting at
1 p.m. at Grand Ronde Elementary.
Events include Bill Shonnely with Life
Flight; Sheriff museum; the Crash
Dummies; awareness of tobacco, al
cohol, and drugs; immunizations; car
seat demonstrations; new mombaby
care; and much much more.
The public is invited and encour
aged to attend. A free family dinner
will start at 5 p.m. Then at 6 p.m. a
special video presentation will be held
entitled Loves Me, Loves Me Not: A
Real Story of Violence and its Affect
on .Family. Great prizes will be
raffled for adults, and child care will
be provided free of charge. The com-,

The Tribal Education and Wellness programs are sponsoring a "Back to School" Fam
ily Night at the tribal office parking lot on Monday, September 21 beginning at
5 p.m. Dinner will be provided. The activity will include an outside dance, games,
and informational booths. The DJ will be Back Wood Sounds. It is a great opportu
nity to get together for fun and recognize all our students going back to school. For
