6 Opportunities Smoke Signals The newly established Royalty Board is inviting young tribal women from the ages of 5-21 to participate in the Grand Ronde Royalty Court. Girls ages 5-7 can run for Miss Tiny Tot; girls 8-13 can run for Junior Miss Grand Ronde; girls 14-17 can run for Senior Miss Grand Ronde; and young women ages 18-21 can run for Miss Grand Ronde. Any tribal girl can participate as an honorary princess to get Royalty experience. The deadline to sign up has been extended to July 30, 1998. Participants must be an enrolled member of the Grand Ronde Tribe, and enrolled in public or private school (unless graduated or a Tiny Tot). Participants must have their own regalia that is appropriate for all events. Members of Royalty Court are not paid positions. Fund-raisers are the responsibility of the Court and their parentssponsors to coordinate. The monies raised will help the participants with travel expenses. Royalty Court participants are expected by their conduct, to represent the Grand Ronde Tribe, their family, and themselves with integrity and gracious spirit at all times. This means that participants must show good judgement by not participating in any activities that could bring adverse publicity to themselves or the Tribe while a member of Royalty Court. Participants must be single, childless, never married, and must be living with parents or guardian (unless over the age of 18). All young women and girls participating must be drug and alcohol free. Royalty Court participants and their parentsponsor must attend all re quired events (pow-wows, parades, fund-raisers, organizational meetings and others). Absences can be prearranged with the Royalty Board. Par ticipants are expected to stay for the duration of the events, and are ex pected to speak in front of large groups of people. Royalty Court partici pants must be willing and able to dance. Remember: You are all part of a team and are expected to treat others with respect at all times. Royalty Court participants will be judged at the Royalty Court Pageant during the Annual Pow-wow in August, 1998. The entrances to roads 206 and 212 along the Wind River access road are gated year round to restrict vehicular traffic in the enhancement area. Only Natural Resources' vehicles are permitted be yond these gates for management purposes. Hunting in the Wildlife Enhance ment Area is permitted, but the hunter is required to pack out on foot. The penalty for any gate access violation is a two year suspension and forfei ture of all current hunting tags. DISABLED HUNTERS ARE DEFINED AS IN THE OREGON STATE REGULA TIONS: "Disabled hunters are categorized 2 ways: 1) A disabled hunter is a person who is permanently unable to be mobile without the assistance of a wheel chair; 2) A visually impaired hunter is a person whose central visual acuity does not exceed 20200 in the better eye with best correction or if that persons visual acuity exceeds 20200, has a limit to their field of vision such that its widest diameter subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees." ISSUANCE OF TAGS (TRANSFERRED): Tags for any given hunt will be issued one at a time. If a member is eligible for a hunting tag and has had an additional tag transferred to them by an Elder or a disabled member, the member will be issued only one of these tags at a time. The tag must be filled and reported before the next tag is issued. FISH & WILDLIFE COMMISSION ACTIONS: The commission hanged the rules to allow any muzzleloading weapon, includ ing those with closed ignitions and scope sights, in hunts for game mammals where centerfire weapons are legal.
