The club will meet weekly throughout July for fun-filled events which aim to edu cate the youth against the dangers of cigarette smoking. " Members gather at the tribal Health and Wellness Cen ter and Grand Ronde Elementary School for mornings of smoke-free fun. Activities include education and crafts ranging from building floats for the Dallas, Willamina and Pow-wow parades to the "On-The Ball Tobacco Quiz" or the "Tar in a Jar" test. New members sign up for the club by filling out a pledge card to remain smoke-free for the summer. After joining they receive their first Froggy Trading Card and can then earn one to two cards for each future event they participate in. Members who have earned 10 or more cards are eli gible for a drawing that could win them a new bicycle The Tobacco-Free Summer Kids Club is organized by the Grand Ronde Dental and Wellness programs and is sponsored by the Polk County Coalition. The groups aim to ensure that local youth have a G.R.E.A.T. (Grand Ronde Education Against Tobacco) summer. Upcoming activities include: kite making on July 1, a booth in Wil lamina during the parade on July 4, education and crafts on July 10 and 15, preparing the float and maiming the booth for Dallas Days on July 24 and 25, and more crafts on July 29. Heritage Board announces Logo Contest The Kwelth Tahlkie Culture and Heritage Board is seeking two (2) new logos for use by the Board. A con test is being held to find these logos. The contest will be open to all Na tive American youth in two catego ries. One winning logo will be picked from each. The categories are: grades K-8 and grades 9-12. $100 will be awarded to the winning stu dent in each category. The deadline for the competition is Friday, August the 28. Designs should reflect the Culture and Heri tage of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. All applicants are encouraged to provide their personal information at the time of submitting their designs on a separate piece of paper.
