Do you feel you are a victim of life and stuck in your situation? This film, narrated by W. Mitchell, deals with these themes. Severely burned in a mo torcycle accident, Mitchell survived only to become paralyzed in a plane crash four years later. In "Tak ing Responsibility for Your Choices," Mitchell of fers concrete strategies for dealing with adversity. The Education Division is glad to announce that it will offer a new program beginning Fall Term Semester 1998. A policy criteria has been devel oped for a CONTINUING EDUCATION PRO GRAM for tribal members who are employed full time and therefore only able to work part time on their degree program course work. The program Deadline date to apply to Tribal Education Pro grams is August 1, 1998 for Fall TermSemester funding consideration: This applies to the Adult Vocational Training Program and the Higher Edu cation Program. Both these programs are Feder ally funded "need-based" programs. It is required that you apply for Federal Financial Aid each aca demic year. If you wait until the deadline date to apply, eligibility determination will likely be de- GED it's never too late! Summer GED classes begin on June 22. The new days and hours will be Mondays and Wednes days from 1 to 4 p.m. in the education classroom. These tribal classes are co-sponsored with Chemeketa Community College and are open to the community. Members of the Grand Ronde Tribe may also sign up for a Tuesday evening class which is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. during the month of July. These films of fer an uplifting look at the heartwarming stories of people and the life lessons they have learned. will allow funding for tuition, fees, books and sup plies on a limited basis. Students will be able to take one to two classes per termsemester, provid ing all application requirements are met. We have not yet determined funding amounts but should be able to provide more information by mid-July. If you are a CONTINUING STUDENT, you should have submitted copies of your financial aid application to the education office by February 15. Many of you have not submitted this document so you may see a delay in eligibility determination this year. For continuing students who have all the pa perwork submitted we should be able to get 1998 99 funding award notices out to you by mid-July. Become a CPR instructor The American Red Cross is offering a First Aid and CPR Instructor Course to be held in Salem. It is recommended that you participate in a basic level course in First AidCPR prior to taking the instruc tor course. Registration is first-come, first-served. Training is scheduled as follows: Inst. Candidate Training (ICT) June 17 6-10 pm Pre-course Skill June 27 8 am-12 pm Session 1 June 27 1-5 pm Session 2 June 28 8 am-12 pm Session 3 June 28 1-5 pm Cost for course fees, books, and materials is $100. All sessions will be held at the Wil lamette Chapter, 1290 Hoyt St. SE, Salem. Make your own drum and moccasins The Eugene drum making class that was scheduled for Saturday, June 6 will be resched uled. We still want to offer this class to the Eugene and Salem areas, so please call 1-800-422-0232, ext. 2282 to sign up if you are in terested. Tentative plans are to offer the classes in September. CTGR tribal members, ages 16 and above, are eligible to attend the classes free of charge by registering in advance with the Adult Education program. Supplies are in cluded for eligible participants. More tribal members are still needed to sign up in order to run a Salem moccasin class. These classes offer a "hands on" opportunity to learn more about Native history and culture. The skills taught also reinforce math and sci ence concepts. If enough people register, we would like to offer this class in the fall.
